Taito Egret 2/3

Post by Battlesmurf »

Hello!

Does anybody have any information on the Taito Egret 2/3s? I'm STRONGLY considering one of these as my next major purchase. Mame/pcbs/old stuff/future stuff is very important- what's my best bet for best all around? (reason I', after the Egrets is for the tate mech on the monitor ;P)

Looking forward to seeing some knowledgable peopel on the subjects :) (I've seen some nice cabs here on the forums :)

If you want monitor rotation, then don't get the egret3, as it apparently does not have it.

You might already know about this site, but here it is in case you don't:

There's a bunch of good info there.

I have a new astrocity w/ a vertical monitor that I use for mame, pcbs, ps2 and dreamcast. It takes me about half an hour to rotate the monitor. I can do it alone, but help is probably recommended. Its monitor is a low/medium res Nanao. I think low resolution is sufficient for most shmups and mame. I have never used medium res. My dreamcast would benefit from hires, but it still looks OK in low.

You can rotate the monitor, but it does not have the easy rotate mechanism that the egret 1 and 2 do.

I've got the entire process down to about 10 - 15 minutes. Definately no problem doing it yourself if you tip the cab into its back.

cool : ) so far so good. Well, I just got in touch with Matsu-and he doesn't know when he'll see some egret 3's (no surprise). He did offer an Atomtiswave in its place, though. I really want something that does hi-res and rotates, but as far as the rotates go, I'll take what I can get. How much of a process is it to rotate the monitor in one of the Atomiswaves? What are the major differences between these and the egret 3's?

They're basically the same cab minus the monitors. The E3 has a toshiba tube which is what makes it cost a mint.

What about the power supply ? Does the E3 lack -5V like the AW SD ?

Everything he said :D

Egret3 is still way too expensive so my next cabinet will be an Egret2 which will be home to Ketsui or DoDonpachi DOJ.

CandyCabinetCity.com has some good information.

Cheers,
Matt

Thanks all for the help :) Really looking like it's going to be an astrocity or Egret 2 :)

So how does one plug a dreamcast into the egret II ?
Is it hard?

egret II looks pretty sweet, but might be a good idea to swap the monitor for something hi-res. But by then perhaps it would be a better idea to get a blast city or a net city?
