Thanks. ^_^

It took about an hour to get most of them (aforementioned complexity of the writing style, and fixing mistakes) but it was good practice.

Are there any more?

And most of them were quite tricky, as this hiragana is quite stylised. The very complex ones (we, wi, na) took a while to recognise, and some of them have unusual strokes.

Actually, you could have just copied the iroha poem mentioned in the Wiki article you linked.

"Iro ha nihoheto, chiri nuru wo..."

The poem uses each Hiragana character once, and thus used to form the order of the Hiragana "alphabet", just as it forms the order of characters on the name entry screen in Guwange. ;)

Only in the 20th century was the order eventually changed to the more logical "a, i, u, e, o" system.

Y'see, I didn't know that, and thus did it the hard way. I managed to learn most of them anyway, which is a bonus for spending an hour translating them by eye and SEVERAL MILLION HOURS in Photoshop putting it together. ^_-

Can you provide more exact location? I only found two incredibly bad replays there.

Davey - Super Buffet S.T. - 1,854,569 - 5 - Gensuke - 2469 - MAME

Interesting game, but I think the people who aren't familiar with it are at an even greater disadvantage than usual. I'm kinda starting to get the hang of it a little bit, though. Sort of.

Yep, though it's not quite DoDonPachi as far as timing goes. The chains are pretty easy to keep up for the majority of the game. I spent about 10 hours last week getting a feel for the basics and stage layouts, which is not too bad.

I find the chain extremely hard to maintain by stage 3, actually - especially when the screen meets the bottom right corner. I've ended several rounds there tonight due to chain-breaking frustration. It would help if bombing wasn't out of the question :?

You can bomb, but you have to make sure your chain meter is sufficiently filled before you do. That and you have to make sure you leave something on screen to rescue your chain with, like a bullet or an enemy.

Hmm, thanks for the tip, Icarus. I'm afraid that even with a filled meter it will be cutting it dangerously close, though. There's very little room for error in this game.

Well, time to formulate a pathetic-but-safe bombing strategy! =p

Shocky wrote:May I ask what you pro guys are scoring in stage 1? I'm getting a measily ~170k no matter how I try to chain. Also, how much can the chain be after stage 1, I'm getting some 436?
If it helps, I'm anything but a "pro" but I can manage a chain of about 900-1000 on stage 1, so that much should definitely be in your reach with a little practice. :)

The whole bombing thing kinda confuses me too...sometimes as soon as I use it the meter pretty much drops empty instantly (even if it's filled a ways), other times it decreases slowly, similarly to how it behaves at a boss fight, and I can save it once the bomb is done. I'm not sure what the deal-breaker is...

CLick on "Replay", then "Atlus - Cave". It's partway down the page then. I watched it yesterday. It's an ALL-clear at 22million or so. I'm not sure what the other replay is.

If he dies early, you have the wrong version of mame/rom.

LOL at losing a 10,000+ chain before the 3rd boss because MAME minimized. (shouldn't MAME pause by default if it minimizes? ffs)

Soooooooo close, final form of final boss, if I could have only gotten a food item in stage 6. Actually broke a 20,000 chain but the game didn't give me credit for it.

Ok, that explains why in the other replay he/she starts really good but then starts messing up and dying in the first boss. I thought it's enough to have the same MAME/+. Thanks!

At least I learned to hoard bullets/coins by letting the enemies shoot before killing them.. I'm already getting longer chains in stage 1 \o/

Scores updated.

The chaining in this game is pretty unforgivable due to the fact that you are forced to keep your chain throughout the stages. Therefore one mistake will screw your run... :?

...this game is pretty dangerous for my keyboard or pad, again. :P

Maintaining a chain is relatively easy though, the game is more about what you do with the chain while it's active, as opposed to the strict chaining in DDP. You can even make stupid mistakes or die and still keep chaining. Also losing your chain really doesn't screw the run at all, at least not for the kind of scores we're looking at attaining - it would be entirely possible to get a contest winning score just by playing excellently for the second half of the last level, as there are some major chain boosters and a potentially huge end of game bonus available.

One wonders how your score is so low with a chain that big.

Got a bit jiggy w/ Shishin.

GaijinPunch - FEKA USA - 7,188,977 - 5 - Shishin - 9878

EDIT
Doesn't look like the table's been updated:

GaijinPunch - FEKA USA - 8,540,719 - 5 - Shishin - 11,846

My best 1-3 run followed by perhaps my worst stage 4 run. :(

Anyone that can do that isn't worried about losing their chain, most likely.

It's a slower moving chain, so less points along the way. He's just good at not getting hit, and getting some quick jumps in the chain thanks to the health bonuses.

And excellent work my Feka teammates!

Wolf Chick = Kosame, and it's actually a fox, and not just any fox but a nine tails fox, which is a powerful spirit in japanese folklore. This game is so full of great detail. Too bad scoring isn't motivating outside competions and most people won't realize what a piece of art this is in all aspects... just like I didn't . Now I'd like to put on VR goggles and dive into the game to get some serious scares. Hopefully in 10 years time we'll be getting 3d-immersion remakes of old classic games...

A 20k chain all the way to Guwangesama should be netting you at least 15mil.
I'm pushing 8mil after the stage3 boss, and that's with a chain of between 10,500 - 12,500.
