STGT 2k6- Week #6 Guwange
I'm guessing that for the players who know what they are doing the score sort of increases exponentially as the game progresses? As opposed to my case, where the amount of bullet spam allowed to accumulate on the screen increases exponentially instead?

Keep the guage alive!
Kill smaller enemies with shot, kill bigger enemies with shiki!
Keep shiki on enemy shots when there are no enemies to kill on the screen at the time. Keep the guage alive!
Give boss some shiki abuse every once in a while. KEEP THE GUAGE ALIVE
God, I love the coin pumping thingy. So addictive. MOAR COINS!

So what would subtitute the "Lay" sound in Laydock? I've checked the games' box, but it the title was written in Katana.Icarus wrote:If you want to know your hiragana for your name entry, go here:

For the score numerals, go here:

This is my name in hiragana, I'll be using it on my scoretable when I get round to posting screenshots:
いかるす = i-ka-ru-su
(Although for foreign words they should technically be using katakana, but nevermind.)

So far I have come up with the following:
スペル (Su-pe-ru) ? ドク (?-do-ku)
Is this anywhere near correct?
With multiple "alphabets" the Japanese language certainly is daunting to newcomers.

In fact the レイ part is exactly as it is in AxelaySuper Laydock wrote:Thank you very much!CIT wrote:"Suupaa Reidokku"
Hiragana:
すうぱあれいどっく
Katakana:
スーパーレイドック
I would never, ever have been able to find this myself, especially with the romanization being so different.
And the Katana is indeed exactly as on the box!

P.S. best of luck to the Old Schoolers with Guwange!

Japanese is a tricky language to get used to if you're a newcomer. There are a lot of easy points to remember to make the language learning a bit easier though (such as the "L" and "R" sounds being roughly the same - therefore "reidokku"). I actually really enjoy learning the language despite it being pretty challenging with kanji, katakana, hiragana and even romaji. Still a novice though. ^_-Super Laydock wrote:I would never, ever have been able to find this myself, especially with the romanization being so different.

Since the name entry only allows you four glyphs, you'll have to cut one of the hiragana out of your name to be able to fit it in.
Try this: れいどく
I'm probably going to be bored doing my coursework tonight, so I'll try and put up a layout chart with a translation of the name entry screen's hiragana tonight for everyone. Might as well get the practice in. ^_-
This game is the single sexiest thing Cave have ever made. So much style and excellent design. The only Cave games I've seen lately that can match Guwange is Ibara and Mushi Futari.howmuchkeefe wrote:Keep the guage alive!

I constantly feel like I'm on the verge of a breakthrough with this game...I can keep my chain going 90 percent of the time, but there's always something that seems to break it...one stray hit, getting the spirit onto something a second too late, I feel this close to semi-respectability on this thing. I managed a score above 2 mil earlier today but lost it like an idiot, guess I'll hafta do it again.

the guage is the rotating skulls right?
You got it!
Some are shot power ups, others refill the life guage/give you coins. The pearl might be an extra bomb? I don't remember off the top of my head. I read it in the strategy section, but I haven't memorized it. You might want to check it out:do the red things increase your health?
and what do the pearl and angel type things do?

The Coop was kind enough to bump it, it should be close to the top of the rather slow moving strategy section now.

More info on hiragana here:

That was fun. Some of the glyphs are hard to work out.

May I ask what you pro guys are scoring in stage 1? I'm getting a measily ~170k no matter how I try to chain. Also, how much can the chain be after stage 1, I'm getting some 436?

Before Pope John Paul died he decreed that Aliens were also GOD's creatures and we should treat them with respect.

I'm getting on average 480k, with a chain of around 2,200. Highest chain I've ever had is 2,401 (just got it two minutes ago). Master players are breaking 3,200 for the stage1 chain.Shocky wrote:May I ask what you pro guys are scoring in stage 1? I'm getting a measily ~170k no matter how I try to chain. Eh? Which were troublesome, if you don't mind my asking?Icarus wrote:That was fun. Some of the glyphs are hard to work out.
By the way, your first u should be a ra.
Interesting that the game is using the old layout (i - ro - ha) complete with depreciated wi and we. They were really trying to go for the feel!

Are there any more?
And most of them were quite tricky, as this hiragana is quite stylised. The very complex ones (we, wi, na) took a while to recognise, and some of them have unusual strokes.
