Looking for a certain game...

I remember seeing a certain arcade (or something else? I saw someone playing a ROM of it) shmup a while back, and would like to know what its name is. Unfortunately, my memory isn't the best so I can only give vague hints. Think of it as a puzzle

-It was fairly manic, and I doubt it was made before 1993 based on its graphics
-I think it supported 4 players, but if not, it had 4 characters to choose from
-One of the characters was a sinister looking, somewhat aged, bearded man (I think!). I also seem to remember him piloting a green ship.
-You encountered the lass boss several times before the end of the game, and he was more powerful each time
-I'm pretty sure the last boss had a ridiculous number of phases

Might be Batsugun or Dragon Blaze. They both have bearded dudes in them.

It's Batsugun. Dragon Blaze didnt come out till 2000.

Gunbird maybe? Didn't the old guy in Gunbord fly a sort of green helicopter?

Giga Wing
to clarify:
-its fairly manic
-there are 4 characters to choose from
-one of them, an old guy, has a green ship
-you have to fight the last boss several times in earlier stages
-the last boss has a couple of different forms and takes very long to beat

Yea. Now that I think about it, that's definitely Giga Wing, and it has been emulated. It's officialy been released on the Dreamcast aswell.

I've been playing Giga Wing today. Damn it's hard. The lava level's boss is just a pain for me. I still love this game, though.

Well, that's what I get for making assumptions. It wasn't Giga Wing (nice game though). I'll try some of the other ones listed here.

As I recall, the recurring boss controlled a humanoid-ish mech. He MAY not have been the last boss, but I think he was. One of the forms of the last boss has, I think, giant golden hands that attack you.

Gigawing is a great game if you're just starting to get into playing for score because it's very rewarding.

No, don't remember. I am fairly sure the bearded guy had a grey beard and was maybe a bit overweight. This could be completely off, but I feel like he may have been a "necromancer"? I hope I'm not having false memories to throw you off here!

I recall it being a pretty lengthy game, too.

Yeah, you can boost your score by 800 mil and still feel unaccomplished.

Yeah, sounds like it maybe. I still say it might be Gunbird, but I think that's just because you talk of grey beards.

in mahou's defense, bornham does have one grey beard...

It was Mahou. I was thinking about the green powerup-shot you can get, evidently.

I was also wrong about it being manic, but it's plenty challenging for me. In fact, about half the things I said were wrong!

I so very sorry professor. That was an extremely wrong thing to say. I know what I'm doing wrong NOW! This crap was driving me crazy. I very sincerly apoligize. I didn't know what I was doing untill now. I can stop this stupid crap right now. I didn't know what I was doing. It's like a big stupid trap to get caught in.
