Its the only one I'm owning so there's the chance to play it on something else than MAME.
are console versions of DP allowed? i've heard slowdown is an issue here.

The only version that slows down considerably is the Saturn port. I never found it easier than the MAME version, though. DonPachi doesn't have fast bullets that are easier to dodge when the game slows down. It's more about precise movement, so it can be quite devastating to your performance if your ship responds in slow motion.

IMO, console versions of DP don't give anyone a measurable advantage, so they should be allowed.

Since Progear doesn't seem to have the steam in order to win I submit a vote for Guwange!

It does suck, I agree. My only decent computer is a laptop issued from my institution. I doubt they'd want me playing games on it. But even if I could get away with it, I'm quite sure vertical games would look stupid on this widescreen monitor.

I will sacrifice myself and vote for Guwange, but only if the vote will count for something. Otherwise I'm going to vote for DP.
THIS IS NOT A VOTE.

Actually I strongly suspect Progear is the only game that could stand against DP, judging by the votes that have been cast so far and a few rumours i 've heard. Personally Guwange is my favourite by far (this is NOT my vote) but i suspect voting for guwange will only help DP to win, given that around 40% of the votes have been for DP so far, which of course is a disgrace.

Over at namako HQ we've been doing some gentle practise on a few Cave games and we've been doing ok, and from comments made by other players I would guess other teams have been building/rebuilding their skills too so now we have players primed to perform at these games, it would be such a shame to let this go to waste especially if we all end up playing crappy DP. At the end of this contest would anyone be interested in a showdown on whichever of these games don't get chosen for Cave Week?

You show much moral rectitude, Professor. :)

You could use mame rotation and TATE your laptop! That would be so cool. Or maybe you could make a case for getting another laptop with regular screen dimensions for "research" purposes...

Well said, this final week is what many people have been waiting for since the competition began and we could end up with sodding DP that we already played to death last time round. I hope people play the games first before voting. DP is OK and all, but Progear and Guwange are 2 of the best shooters ever made.

I'd enter into a cave comp after this, especially if we get stuck with DP this week.

^_^ Very well.
We duel to the death (figuratively speaking) after STGT! ^_-

Shikigami 3 can wait a while. I've been meaning to get back in to Cave games anyways, too much unfinished business.

I voted in Guwange because between these games, it is a game who I play better, nothing that say "wow, how this guy is good", but I know that I gonna make a good score.

For that people who never played before this game will go to find odd the score a little strange.

I vote for DonPachi, in deference to my fellow teammates, Prof. Ganson, and mulletgeezer's unfortunate characterization of the democratic process as a thing of "shame" and "disgrace".

They voted for DonPachi, not for the suspension of habeus corpus.

:D :D :D

As i've pointed out to the Prof before i do like to exaggerate a bit, just for fun. I've no problem with the democratic process but it can produce some bad results - the re-election of GWB was one, the choosing of DP over a number of vastly superior games could be another. :)

Truth be told, I'd been vacillating between Guwange and DonPachi all day.

I probably would have ended up voting for DonPachi anyway: Turrican did better than I did at Dragon Blaze, so I'm thinking it follows that my team'd be better off playing DonPachi than it'd be playing Guwange... and I feel like I owe it to The Coop, who's done a lot for the team so far.

I typed it 4 times, that's 4 votes. Can we please use one of those diebold voting machines?

Yeah, i expect it's the best choice for your team, and especially for The Coop if he wants to keep his individual placing.

Personally i'm a great believer in Utilitarianism, the idea that the best thing to do in any given situation is that which brings the greatest amount of total happiness, or smallest amount of unhappiness to all individuals effected. DP has been strongly denounced by two voters so far whereas the other games (with the possible exception of DF) are almost universally enjoyed by shmuppers. I deduce from this that voting for DP will cause less happiness within the world than voting for the other games and is therefore morally questionable. </utterbollocks>

As the tournament leader, if I type in [random Cave game] x10, does that count as ten votes?
Gotta try that. ^_-

I hate everyone who votes for Donpachi for the game and not as convenience, but not as much as those who vote for Esprade.

I see, i didn't realise the Esprade discussion was still continuing.

So you're keen on DF eh? It is an awesome game and it's a shame nobody else is likely to vote for it, the cowards. If you're keen to compete you can joing us for our little cave contest after this tournament, i've been playing some DF and i'm keen to compete at it too. I think DEL might also be up for that one.

This looks to be the current tally:

DP: 7
Guwange: 6
Progear: 6
DF: 2
Esprade: 1

While ESP Ra.De. is winning the unofficial vote. Odd.

How the heck is Double Penetration leading by a vote when Guwange and Progear, two superior games, are available to be chosen??! Seriously people, Cave Week should end the tournament with a bang. Donpachi is not a bang. It's not even a squeaky fart. (`ー´)

LOL. Two and a half days worth of voting to go.
