it shouldn't be over 25. in fact i think 25 is a bit much.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I'll take as many complete, good condition copies of Super Aleste SFC as you can get me for below 25. $25 is the selling price IN JAPAN. If you can get one for less outside Japan, more power to you :)

Is $35 U.S mint too much for it?

Sounds good. I don't think you'll find it for much less; unless someone here is willing to sell it to you.

Yeah $35 sounds good to me too. I think that's what I paid.

In my recent experience: $25 not including shipping. I don't think the demand for this game is terribly high atm. I saw a complete copy sit around in a buy-it-now eBay auction at $25 for several weeks. I got my copy for that price here on the forum.

Aleste is a must have if you like Zanac.

SAM, your Zanac score is quite good. I'm chasing it right now and I have a LONG way to go still.

Recently I have been playing the MSX Zanac & Zanac-Ex, quite good. You should try it if you have time. :o

yes I do

God forbid we pay what japan pays.

I hate that game though, I've always thought it blew. 25 is to much in my eyes, not that my opinion matters.

Just be thankful you never wasted the money on the domestic release.
Goes around $50 last time I checked and it's the same boring ass game.

My advice: Save your money and get Axelay instead. Perhaps even R-Type 3.

Actually, they're not so close in spirit - Zanac being based on rank ai and such, and betting on the boxes thing... Super Aleste is much more traditional in that sense. I'd say it's a must have nonetheless, especially if you like Gunhed, it's sorta of a Gunhed on steroids.

GTFO, it's opinion man so name calling is unnecessary.
So what if I think Super Aleste is boring, can you blame me if the levels are 10 minutes long and essentially can be played while sleeping. That's just how I feel but apparently I've touched a nerve.

I think Axelay is a more interesting game and it's cheaper too. Key word(s) 'I think'.

I like Axelay too - loved it back when I had it in cartridge form - but playing it back now reveals a very shallow and linear experience.

You end up playing the same sections with the same weapons every time - a second run with every weapon available from the start would've been great.

Super Aleste is indeed pretty easy on the default setting (as I mentioned in the xenocide files review), but the gameplay is much, MUCH richer.

My SFC shmup ranking:

1. R-Type III
2. Super Aleste
3. Axelay

Axelay looks great, but the gameplay in the vertical stages just isn't tight. Aleste has super tight gameplay, and if it's too easy, just yank up the difficulty.

Even if you can change the difficulty, it's a very draining drawn-out game. Too long for my tastes.
Granted I've had limited play with Axelay and not much lately, but I found it a bit more tolerable than Aleste.

I'm a huge Compile fan.. and I was really let down with this game.

I have the Jp Super Famicom release... and this game just seems so weak compared to the rest of their releases.

I too would say go for Axelay and not this game.

I like Compile shooters as well and while Super Aleste is not their best game, it's far from being horrible. The stages *are* a bit drawn out indeed, but it's pretty impressive what Compile managed to get out of the Super Famicom (which is renowned for its sluggish cpu). I think it's a must-have game for SFC.

As far as Axelay (is this Japanglish for x-ray?) is concerned, the mode-7 levels look very dated nowadays and don't play so great. Certainly a good game, but not perfect either.

Yeah, the vertical stages in Axelay have some seriously dodgy gameplay. The hit detection and the drift towards the center are pretty fucked. The lack of powerups in levels is kind of dull too.

Overall I give Super Aleste the definite edge over Axelay, it's just a much tighter game, although Axelay is still pretty cool.

R-Type III is still the single best shmup on SFC though, imo.

R-Type III is good, I kind of like Macross: Scramble Valkyrie better though.

Musha Aleste on Megadrive is a completely different game from Super Aleste, with a pretty cool Sci-Fi feudal Japan theme going on.

It shares some similar gameplay mechanics though. A kick-ass game, that should be in every Megadrive library. :)

Dennin Aleste (Robo Aleste) on Mega CD is great too! Actually I like it even better.
