Just got my STV copy of Soukyugurentai
oh good god, how have I gone this long without it? what a fantastic game... and the first Raizing game I've put in my cab! no doubt there will be more Raizing titles on my "need it" list now.

true true... but I've been watching the superplays of BG... that one seems like my kind of shmupCIT wrote:Yip, great game. Just because you like Soukyuugurentai though, doesn't mean you'll love the other Raizing games. Soukyuugurentai is a bit different.
EDIT:
Terra Diver is the name of the arcade game when it was released outside of Japan.

Is it me, or has there been a small increase in the number of Raizing players lately?
Yup, Soukyu is a great game, but different to the "suicidal" Raizing style that gets discussed to hell and back on the forum. Advised you give the big three a go first (Garegga, Batrider, Bakraid) before you fork out for them. The other Raizing games are more traditional but just as hard (Brave Blade, Mahou trilogy - Great Mahou recommended over the other two Mahou games).

This game is my one of if not my favorite shooter. I love this game and I picked it up when it was released on a whim b/c it was a new shooter on the saturn. I still have that same copy. The same thing happened with Hyper Duel. Most my saturn games were opened first by me.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Are the Garegga, Batrider and Bakraid Saturn ports fairly accurate to their arcade counterparts? I think a friend has these titles, and it might be a good way to test the waters.Icarus wrote:Is it me, or has there been a small increase in the number of Raizing players lately?

Only Garegga was ported and is arguably better than the arcade game (you can change the bullet color/size to make them more visible, there is a cheat to play ships from Kingdom GP).slugnoid wrote: Are the Garegga, Batrider and Bakraid Saturn ports fairly accurate to their arcade counterparts? Saturn Garegga - very accurate, even as far as adding slowdown emulation as an unlockable selectable option.slugnoid wrote:Are the Garegga, Batrider and Bakraid Saturn ports fairly accurate to their arcade counterparts? Bakraid and Batrider have no ports. Try them in MAME (emulation accurate).
That cheat is available in the arcade original as well.Ceph wrote:Only Garegga was ported and is arguably better than the arcade game (you can change the bullet color/size to make them more visible, there is a cheat to play ships from Kindom GP).

Not really. The port allows individual buttons to be configured to Shot, Web, Bomb, screen zoom and so on, which for some will give better control over the game. (Especially if you play for score - being able to activate the Web without firing a shot is quite handy for maximising multipliers.)Never_Scurred wrote:Its good to hear this game discussed....I bought it a while ago on ebay for the Saturn.......are there any major differences between the port and the pcb?

If you're serious, I might pick up the re-release, because I know where I can get it for cheap. Can anyone verify this? I know about the cleaned up glitches in the Otokuyou version, but I've never heard about less slowdown.professor ganson wrote:I love this game as well. Plenty challenging, nice sound-effects, great fun. It's also nice how it is reasonably affordable for the Saturn. And there's a later release of the game on the Saturn that cuts down on the slowdown.

Don't forget, Otokuyou also has a playable demo of Battle Garegga. It also has a sound test of other Raizing games (does the regular version of Souky?)

Yeah, the standard version has the soundtest for BG, Mahou Daisakusen and Shippu Mahou Daisakusen/Kingdom Grandprix too. Plus it's redbook so you can put it in your CD playerccovell wrote:Don't forget, Otokuyou also has a playable demo of Battle Garegga. I distinctly recall someone telling me this in a pm, but I have no independent evidence. I now have the Otokuyou version and no longer have the early release, so I'm not able to test/verify.SamIAm wrote:If you're serious, I might pick up the re-release, because I know where I can get it for cheap. I own both releases and can confirm that the slowdown is the same in both (though it is very minor slowdown in either case). The main difference is that they fixed the text tables so there are no longer textual glitches on screen when playing on a US Saturn (contrary to popular belief, it has nothing to do with a converter cart issue - the game auto-detects the region and tries to use a text table for that reigion - the 'Terra Diver' aka English table was only partially populated in the original release and so will show garbage on screen for some parts of the game - as long as you don't press a button during the intros to bypass the garbage text, it will clean itself out fine for playing). Soukyugurentai Otokuyo (aka second edition) has the text table fixed (I think it just copies the Japanese text and gave up on the translation - but the glitches are now gone when playing on a non Japanese-region Saturn). It also has a playable demo of Battle Garegga. The main game, however, is identical as far as I can tell.SamIAm wrote:If you're serious, I might pick up the re-release, because I know where I can get it for cheap. Can anyone verify this? Both versions of the game are contained in the cartridge - if you have a japanese bios, it'll by Sou.. souk.. sougyu.. an english bios'll show Terra Diver.
Great game yes, not sure it's my favourite Raizing game, it could very well be.
Bullet flickering in Garegga on Mame? Huh? Mahou characters exclusive to Saturn only? You seem to be a bit misinformed my friend.
I agree that the option to make the bullets pink dots is very welcome, however.
