I'll put a score in for this sometime soon. I bought a copy board a couple of months ago.
This game should have been the retro or hidden gem choice

150,050, round 3 (MAME).

Is there any special way to get points in this game, or do you just want alot of that spinning weapon (blue ball) and the weapon that clears most of the screen (yellow ball)? :)

Ibl - There's no real scoring system for Gemini Wing. There's only the X5 and X10 multipliers that you can pick up.
Just go the distance.

I know! I'm kicking myself for having had to pass up on a copy of the X68000 port (although I didn't have any spare money at the time) recently. It's a bit cutesy for many but the graphics are excellent for 1987 (compare 'em to Flying Shark or Twin Cobra, and they hold up quite well).

As for the 'bomb' types, it's unfortunate that you can't order them as you like. I think the limit you can hold is 14. I find the triple shot is good for knocking out the critters that carry along bombs, and the metronome flame (flame icon, I think) isn't too bad for bosses (it's hard to get close enough to a boss so that you hit them with it most of the time it's active though).

249,060 - Round 3 (MAME).

Gave my old score quite a beating there.
Red balls are quite good at the beginning of round 3... plus not dying on the first two rounds helps too if you die a couple of times in the beginning of round 3. :P

It's a shame there's no special way to get more points... I just need to work on killing stuff I guess. Missed a lot of monsters on round 2.

Agreed and agreed! Ah, my retaking of the #1 position was quite short-lived. I'm taking a break from playing to update, though, so you'd better keep working at it! ;)

It's a tough game; that was the score I had the first day I played it. Keep going, it gets better :)

Updated score, didn't do much better, 77,350. :(

Must get better, but I'm sure a little practice will make things better

Above and beyond the call of duty my friend. It is appreciated though.

I'll probably only contribute a score to this when I get REALLY bored because this game just didn't appeal to me very much. I did think it was kind of neat how your speed was affected by how many 'bombs' you were carrying behind you though.

EDIT: Just some spelling errors.

Why isn't this game on the Tecmo collection for XBOX? I would like to submit a score just to see myself on that cool score table.

(MAME) 402,030 - Round 5 - Javel

Died at the fifth boss. Stage 3 has no ordinary bossfight. Watch out for those branches coming out from the wall at the end of the stage, you´ll have to be parked at the top of the screen in order to survive.

Is auto-fire allowed? I can´t feel my right arm...

Nope. Great score, by the way (I'm having trouble even surpassing my lame initial score)!

Edit: I don't think I'll mess with the table to indicate rounds. Although I do know what I'll do if somebody gets a clear score!

Another small question.

Are we playing full defaults?

Am I right in assuming this means we play on "easy" difficulty?

First session's high today was a 82,150 (round 2) on "normal" difficulty.

Btw, I am glad to be able to play the original these days. :)
Anyone remember the absolutely AWFUL (caps are deserved here, bold letter type too!)
MSX version? I really hope not, everyone having played that one has to have memories of it blocked somewhere in the brain to protect him-/herself from them. :P

With the idea of tying up loose ends. ie. 1CC'ing the ones that got away in the 80s. Prehistoric Isle 1 done, now Gemini Wing.
Played a couple of credits and managed to 1 life it to final Stage 7, where everything fell apart of course and I limped my way to the last Butterfly Boss on my last life and died :? .

Lower score than usual;
DEL - 842,290 - ST7 last Boss

Previous best is somewhere in 900s, but no ALL.

Surely that should be 928 not 911 :? .

Did you beat the game? I can put in the shield graphic, perhaps, if I know that.

Edit: Inspired by DEL to play the game cold (first play in months), improved my score quite a bit and took back third place :o

Ed - Nope I'm afraid I died before the last Boss this time. I've got some more learning to do on ST7.

Cheers :D ,

Adam76 - 110,540 - Round 3 (MAME)

The developer was obviously having a bad day at the office when he decided not to include any speed-ups. Bastard.

The S is a speed up. You can collect and activate them for at least 3 levels of speed up.
Just make sure you have a speed up activated for the ST5 Boss! You don't need any weapons here, just a speed up or two.

Cheers for that, i'd not even noticed them TBH. I don't think i'll entertain any thoughts of level 5 just yet though - i seem to have hit a brick wall in three.

Yep, Round 3 is a pig!
Especially the final section just before the green vines.
The game eases up from there & only gets hard again on the final stage (7).

PATRIK - 872,100 - round 7 MAME - difficulty normal - is that default?

Not much.. Score can be 1.5M+ after final battle. This one was my favorite many years ago.

Yep. I apologize for having left this thread be so long, but some people broke the rule for number of characters in the highscore...I'll have to take a look at my image file again and hack this stuff together.

Wow, glad to see you. Can scratch that image file, better make two tables ..me thinks - one for easy (default) difficulty and second for normal (I always played on normal).
