I still don't get what they mean by turtles in a half shell. It's like they needed an extra word.
Yeah, it was "heroes in a half-shell". Firstly, this makes the shell part less redundant because they are described as heroes instead of turtles (which already implies a shell). The "half-shell" (as opposed to just "shell") makes the song sound better, but I also took it as a play on words. If you check out fancy seafood restaurants they often serve items like "Oysters on a half-shell", it's a presentation thing. Then too, it reminds me of the "Birth of Venus" painting where they have the nude woman standing on a half-shell.
I was never a big turtles fan, but let me go on record and state that the original graphic novels were much better than the later cartoons and movies. Back in the beginning, it was a darker and more serious series without skateboards, pizza, or "Kowabunga!".

hell yes. i really like the comics. i rented the first movie because i hadn't seen it for a decade. it made me sad that this is what it had become, it's too bad eastman and laird released that license.

Totally off topic at this point, but yes, the early TMNT comics were kickass (still have most of them), the RPG ruled...then Eastman and Laird sold out--granted, for HUGE bucks--but Kowabunga dudes? This was one of the major disses of my adolesence..

The newer cartoon is much truer to the comics than the older one and I like it quite a bit so far. I like how they had episodes based on the "Leonardo", "Donatello", "Michaelango", and "Raphael" mini series comics. I was surpised to see yet another cameo of Usagi Yojimbo.
I'm excited to see Dragon Blaze coming to PS2. I really want to play it. I don't like how it's being packed with Sol Divide, though.

Not to mention thew new show actually included the awesome ally/villainess Karai from the Mirage comics, who never appeared in the old show.
And yes, I know that at least half of you will instantly feel that it's your patriotic duty to flame me to heck for watching Spongebob, but for the sake of a little more peace around here I humbly request that you cease being good citizens for the time being.
I, for one, am a HUGE fan of TMNT, old and new. I was never into comic books so I never really read them, but I was a fan of the original cartoon series, the original movies (though 3 was a letdown), and the new cartoon. Cowabunga, dudes!
Spongebob is actually fairly decent for mindless entertainment. Out of the modern crop of cartoons though I prefer Fairly Oddparents, which I find quite imaginative and with the hidden sarcasm that passes over kids heads but is enjoyable to adults.
A lot of the newer cartoons don't interest me much though. The XTREME ATTITUDE ones are a turnoff, as are the countless Pokemon/Yugioh/etc cartoons about fighting card games. Give me Scooby Doo or Bugs Bunny any day over that kind of crap.
I've always liked TMNT, the comics, the games (the games f'ing rocked), the 1st movie, and the cartoons.
The newer cartoons are pretty good. The last handful of episodes have been pretty dark and I was sorta suprised to see them as charcteres were dying, and it was all pretty dark & twisted.
TMNT 1 for the PS2 is a really good game. I haven't tried part 2. But both TMNT games for the GBA are good as well.
I haven't played the recent TMNT games, but I like the arcade games and TMNT 4 on SNES. The first NES game is good, but gets really cheap at times. I like the other two NES TMNT games, but I don't like how they don't have multiple hits like the arcade. TMNT: Turtles in Time SNES is actually better than the arcade in some ways IMO. It has new levels and the surf board levels have been balanced a bit better since they are now bonus rounds. No four player, though.

spongebob can be really great. any cartoon that includes Toulouse Lautrec jokes is ok by me.
I love Konami's Tournament Fighters/Mutant Warriors. Both the critically acclaimed SNES version (or rather, the SFC version that shows more of original character Aska's ass) and the trashed Genesis version. Definitely not the NES version though with its awful controls and hit detection.
It's pretty cool that with a Game Genie or Action Replay for the Genesis, you can play as the otherwise unplayable (even though the case shows screens of them being playable) Triceraton, Krang's Android, and Karai. All 3 are incredibly cheap though.
Still, the SNES version's Karai is undoubtedly one of the most unfair fighting characters ever with her single attack infinite: j.HP. Doesn't stop the rest of the game from being lots of fun though.

That's odd, when I tried the NES Tournament Fighters out, the control seemed fine to me. Hit detection didn't seem off either.
It's cool how the SNES and Genesis Tournament Fighters have Karai. I want to give the second new TMNT game a try, if not just for the port of the arcade game. I heard Karai is playable in Battle Nexus too.
But a disagree about the first. I had a great time playing through it. And an even better time playing with a friend. EXCELLENT 2 player game.
Reviews can't tell you everything. Ya gotta try em for yourself.
I agree. Can't vouch for the PS2 versions, and I haven't played the 2nd game yet, but I tried the 1st one out on a Gamecube at Walmart one time and was really impressed with it. I hope to add it to my collection soon!
dave4shmups wrote:Well, I watched some videos of the first one, and it looks really fun!
One of Gamespot's complaints is that there's pretty much no difference between any of the selectable characters-is this true?
Mikey's air attack is very unique. A friend and I used it alone to beat one of the bosses. He ran interference while my character constantly yelled "eat feet! eat feet! eat feet!".
I don't recall how different they all play though.
the arcade game is my first and only 1CC clear as of now! i played through it at a local Chuck E Cheese (or Showbiz) depending on how old the game is. i loved that game. i'll have to pick up Battle Nexus when it gets dirt cheap.
What, specifically, is worse about the 2nd one then the first? Or did they just not make any improvements?
Sometimes sequels get bad ratings because of this, but if I like the first game, and the second's just more of the same, I personally wouldn't care-heck, I'd want to buy it.

Did the specials work for you? Because they sure didn't work consistently for me (strict timing?). And I can pull out on-reaction and reversal Shoryukens at will in any SFII and III...
And yeah, I'm getting Battle Nexus as soon as I find it for $20. Karai is definitely a reason since there's so few strong, developed, independent, fully garbed (except in the Genesis Tournament Fighters), not sexually portrayed women around in games.
