Press & hold down Select & Start on CPS2 emu

For Halloween Jack,

Sorry about that above button input command which calls up the CPS2 menu setting...that is for adjusting the CPS2 "A & B" board setup. (One can adjust the game's arcade operator settings to their liking and save it directly to the Memory Stick Pro Duo itself for posterity.)

Here's the proper button input command to call up the main CPS2 Test ver. 5 emu program: Press and hold "Select" and "Start" at the same time to bring up the "Main Menu" screen.

Select Game Configuration by using the circle button which'll bring up a list of thirteen different options to choose from...

Select the "Stretch Screen" option output to either one of four different screen size adjustment options: Off (Original), 4:3, 24:17 or 16:9 aspect ratio. (Either 4:3 or 24:17 screen size option works best on the PSP screen given that it's native resolution is at a crisp 480 x 242 setting.) If you are playing with either CPS2 shmup roms of 19XX or Dimahoo, then the additional option to properly "Tate" will come up by selecting the "Rotate Screen" option -- select "No" to tate it to original arcade screen aspect orientation. (Otherwise, by selecting "Yes" option will display the game in "Yoko" mode.) Pick either option that best fits your needs. ^_~

For Dylan1CC,

From one shmupper to another, your welcome... ^_~

Tis a shame that the original Japanese link isn't up anymore, so that means no more CPS2 emu updates from the da man PSP emu master "NJ"?

Who would've thought it would be possible to play CPS2 arcade games on a PSP in 2006 running at nearly 60 frames per second on overclocked 333 mHz CPU speed? A big thanks to "NJ" for his hard work and ceaseless devotion to improving it to the current version that stands at PSP CPS2 Test version 5. ^_~

Heads up for anyone who missed this news...

http://psp-news.dcemu.co.uk/cps2psp2-1- ... 45096.html

This emu update was reported at the start of this month, but in all the news about the new console launches many may have missed it. Progear, Mars Matrix, 19XX, Gigawing, Dimahoo, 1944 - all CPS2 games - are now flawlessly emulated in portable form on PSP. Big news for anyone waiting to play these popular shmups anytime, anywhere.

Technical details of the homebrew emulator are available in the link above. Amazing to see Progear running perfectly in a size that was unthinkable some years ago... :o

I can attest to this.

The latest build is near-perfect. Even memory-taxing games like Marvel vs. Capcom runs perfectly at full-speed w/sound now :)

Kinda OT,but I am happy to report that the newest vers. of mvspsp can now run the larger Neo-Geo games such as KoF'03 and SNK vs Capcom at full-speed w/sound!

A few ?s about CPS2PSP v. 1.61 + MVSPSP v. 1.51 emulators

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

So this CSP2PSP ver. 1.61 is better than the CSP2PSP ver. Test 5 that has been out for a while?

Here's the direct link to the latest PSP emulators that Thunder Force and BIG are referring to:

http://neocdz.hp.infoseek.co.jp/psp/

I couldn't get the NGEPSP_beta2 emu to work properly with a few of MVS Roms -- said that "Bios was not found" upon loading MVS Rom file on my 1.5 firmware PSP.

Any helpful suggestions to remedy that problem?

And are the MVS shmup related Roms of: MVS Blazing Star, MVS Pulstar, MVS Twinkle Star Sprites, MVS Alpha Mission II (is that right?), MVS Andro Dunos, etc. playable with this latest MVSPSP ver. 1.51 emu?

Yes, I already have an original Neo-Geo MV-1 arcade Jamma mobo with some MVS game cartridges -- so I'm safe in the legal MVS Rom file department..... ^_~

Thanks in advance for your helpful suggestions...

Yes,cps2psp v1.60 has come a long way since its beta stages. The larger games now work without a hitch (as seen on the youtube link I posted).

BTW,there's also a new update to the ngepsp emu. The definitive version is called mvspsp. Right now,I am running vers. 1.40 on my system, and everything seems to be running perfectly w/sound.

Regarding your question about 'bios not found'. Have you actually ever got it running in the first place? It seems as if you never had the bios to begin with.

And yes, mvspsp will run Prehistoric Isle II,Strikers 1945 Plus, along with the rest of the MVS shmups mentioned above.

For BIG,

Yes. I finally got the MVSPSP ver. 1.51 emu up & running with a MVS Blazing Star Rom...the Neo-Geo Bios was simply named wrong -- retyped it correctly and replaced back into the MVSPSP "Rom" folder and volia, it works like a charm! ^_~

It does bring a tear to my eye to finally see the MVS version of Blazing Star running at 60 frames-per-second framerate on my PSP... ^_~

Thanks to NJ for his awesome PSP emu skills... ^_~

I'd have to say that it's well worth not upgrading a PSP with original 1.50 firmware just to play MVS & CPS1/CPS2 arcade games on it alone -- I'd have to break down & buy a 2nd PSP just to enjoy the latest & greatest in UMD-based software.....I no regret. ^_~

everything is so easy for homebrew and emulators i never bothered leaning how to do it on 1.5 ...
thing is devhook doesn't run on 1.0 and i want to buy some of the good new games that are coming out ..(every extend extra, mgs portable ops, ultimate ghouls n ghosts etc)

is it much harder to run homebrew etc on 1.5??i remember people talking about kxploits and such stuff last year but i never looked into it!
im actually thinking mebbes just get a 2nd hand psp just for the new games

I don't get why Sony are too stupid to realize that it's GAMES that make or break a system. All they'd have to do is invest a few millions in a handfull of PSP killer-apps.

Also, what the fuck is up with those constant firmware upgrades? Do Sony realize thy are shooting themselves in the foot?

One question (since I don't have a PSP I'm out of the loop): If I were to buy a new PSP now, could I downgrade it to run homebrew stuff?

With Progear being one of my favourite games I'd really like to try this. Unfortunately I upgraded my firmware to run Ultimate GnG (which I've since sold). Would I be able to run this emulator?

Thanks.

right now, the latest version of DevHook its the 0.51001, that runs FW 3.02 ... i have it installed and so far, so good... no problems.

im runnin that version on my PSP with FW 1.5 ... but i got word that DevHook has been ported to the custom FW 2.71SE-C ... so there you go, you have two options to emulate the latest FW3.02 with the newest DevHook.

if the PSP you get, comes with the FW 2.71 or even 2.80 BUT w/o the mobo TA-82, you can use the emulator... since you have chances of downgrading the console or use some xploits and get the homebrew runnin... f you're unlucky enough to get a console with the latest firmware, then you're pretty much fucked up for the time being.

it all depends on which FW version you have installed right now... if im not mistaken, UGnG asked for FW 2.71 ... if so, then you have chances of downgrading or using xploits to get your PSP runnin the latest in homebrew.

Don't know, but I think there were reports of a firmware downgrader (to 1.50) released this month for 2.80 firmware (not 2.81+) PSPs, but it only works for certain older PSP motherboard systems (if you try to apply it to a recent motherboard system it supposedly destroys it).

My PSP is a launch unit plus I've checked the motherboard type already so it should be OK. But yeah, someone in TNL PSP thread is also saying the new downgrader is supposed to be unstable while someone else said they downgraded with no issue.

If you have 2.80 or less you should downgrade to 1.5 and upgrade to 3.02 OE A and then to 3.02 OE B. This will let you run 1.5 like homebrew and play the latest UMD games. It also allows you to play PSX games at full speed.

evem tho Dark_Alex is the PSP GOD nowadays, im still waiting for him to fix some minnor issues with 3.02 OE-B to make the jump there... a friend of mine did already and its enjoyin the PSX games on his PSP, but for me, im happy with my 1.5 runnin DevHook 0.51001 with FW 3.02 ... maybe the next year, ill make the jump to the new custom FW.

Well, I successfully downgraded to 1.5 and got the final 1.66 rev of the emu running. I gave Progear, MM and GW a spin. Simply put: this emulator is jaw droppingly amazing. And as someone who owns a Progear PCB I would like to confirm how incredibly faithful the speed and emulation is. Being able to practice it on the go will be sweet.
Now a few questions I have:

I tried to run Varth on this (even though I have it on CC remixed, just wanted to test the CPS1 emu), and after caching everything proper the emu gives me an odd "file name invalid" error. Does Varth simply need to be renamed for this emu?

The Japanese rev of Progear runs perfectly, but when I load the U.S. rev, the screen is all pixely and yellow/brown with half of the picture missing. Anybody know how to fix this? Just try re-downloading it? No biggie though as all I care is that the right one works. ;)

edit: NM. I reloaded the US zip and cached it again, works fine now, no more garbled screen.

Tomorrow I plan on installing the 3.02OE-A and B custom firmware. Maybe a strange question but after installing it do I have to recache/redo my CPS2 files?

Nope I don't think so. The only thing you might want to do is putting the two emulator folders to GAME150 from GAME.
