So we've seen your Superplay vid's on youtube so what about your shmup reviews on youtube?
I mean I can't be the only guy who has posted about there feeling on a particular shmup on youtube now can I? If I am then think about it! We get 10 minutes to talk about said shmup which should be ample time to go though the in's and out's of any shoot-em-up and futher more it's free to host your vid's on that website. This could be the new way forward for reviewing stuff on this site!?
Here is one that I made in ten minutes using Fraps, MAME and Microsoft Movie Maker which came with Service Pack 2! The balance between the game's volume and my voice could of been a little better but apart from that I think it's alright I supose. The review itself despite me not working at it for very long sums up my feelings about the game in question pretty well.
Please share any vid's you guys have found or have made yourselfs and if you want to know how to record stuff on MAME using fraps then please let me know since I will be happy to help.
Anyway please enjoy!

That was insightfull. I really like your accent, no I'm not ignorant. Well covered. I might have to try that game now....
Um if you're still with me at this point there is um nothing nice to say about this game, it's absolute crap! LOLOL
Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

First thing... THERE'S A NES PORT!? Seriously gotta check that out on emu now that you have mentioned it, may even review the arcade version again and compare it to the NES version.
Secondly thanks to everyone for their kind words on my review. Next time I'll put more effort in to making the video as it was only slapped togther within 10 mins or less lol.
OK just uploaded a better quality version of the video. When I mean better quality I just don't mean the video quality but also the review is better to I think!
Anyway Check it out, reclick the link at the first post!
B-Wings looks downright appalling. The gameplay isn't really that inspiring, and I think Xevious shames it graphically. You did a great job of totally slamming this piece of garbage.
I just played the NES version. I thought the arcade version looked bad. Personally I don't get the whole "We're going to make pipes with flashing weakpoints" thing. I think modular design could be very cool if done right, they have failed in every regard on this game. I think the whole palette consisted of about 10 colors.

I've played the NES version VIA flash emu and I have to say I do think it's generaky better than the arcade version. Not only do you have a massive choice of weaponary at the begging of the game (compaired to the arcades one weapon!) the levels and sound effects are a lot easier on the senses as well. I agree though it could of been a great game with it's moudle style design but I guess the guy programming it just got lazy although it must of been popular in Japan because it got a home port over there!
On a technical note it seems that Jnes hate's B-Wings so I'll try and get an EMU that likes it and record some footage heh.
Thanks for all your kind words on my reviews. I would like to see some of your guys efforts!
I think its a good idea. There's sort of a shmup community on youtube anyway, so why not?

Eugenics: you know it's right!
I'd like to try to do something similar but the fraps trial is preventing me from installing the full version. Is there any other good video capture software I could use?
This is indeed a cool idea. I'd like to do something like that, but my english accent sucks completely. I can't even WRITE correctly, let alone speak...
But maybe I could do a video review in portuguese. It would be nice for the 7 or 8 active guys in our small brazilian shmup community
CamStudio ~ FREE!Download it here!
This handly little app allows the user to record any on screen activity without it having to use Direct3D like Fraps does.
All you have to remember is to set the "region type" before recording. This essentaly tell the programe what part of the screen to record so I would recommend picking the right option for you. To get the best performance make sure you run the game though a window in it's defualt resuoltion and you should get a smooth video capture unless your PC is really, really old or something.
Nice review Danny, looks like an interesting game. Cheers also for the camstudio link... this looks like a quick and easy way to demonstrate my mad skills to my friends.
Well if an admin is reading this thread, feel free to move to the reviews. To be honest though I don't think it would of gotten as much attention if I started it in that forum as suppsed to the general one sadly.
Besides I was not acctualy sure if my reviews meet "the bar" when it comes to quality of the actual review itself so to speak. Aprently the mods are quite strict on that sort of thing and I also like people to reply to my work which is not possable on the reviews forum currently.
Alright here is my late Xmas pressie to you all, another video review of an weird and obscure Shmup called Explosive Breaker made in 1992 by an unknown company called Kaneko.
Enjoy!
p.s: w00t! Just got on to LOOP 2 on this game without credit feeding DAMN! Seriously I know the game does not look very manic from the footage I've shown you and hey you can even be forgiven for thinking that the game is not manic at all for the first 3 levels but as soon as you hit level 4 the game does pick up the pace and after you get in to another dimention (loop 2) the game does go all manic on your buttocks!
I might just have to re-shoot that footage again now...
haha Cheers, Danny. Great review. Now I will forever be spared the apparently pea soup colored pain of BWing. If only my crummy old creative web cam worked with XP, I'd upload a shmup review with my sarcastic and somewhat nasally North Dakotan accent.
edit: Just watched another review, nice work again. Rafflesia looks interesting and worth a spin. You're right, the enemy attacks and music are very well done for such an old shooter.
Good stuff Danny. Keep them coming mate, I really enjoyed watching those. I also love your accent and your voice. Puts me in mind of Neil of The Young Ones fame .

btw, it's bah-tsu-goon, not bah-ta-soo-gun.
Yeah proberbly! Never herd anyone say it before and I'm going to be honest due to a whole host of phyiscal and mental reasons which I don't really wish to go in to I'm not the greatest at reading or writing but cheers for the tip anyway!
Thanks for you kind words though about my reviews chaps
Going to try and take some footage of loop 2 on Explosive Breaker today as that game does go proper mental on your butt after the first loop heh.

You have no idea how many people come up to me and say that lol

Not that unknown, Kaneko did some work on the PCE as well. They had their fingers on Aero Blasters, Heavy Unit and Nexzr, for example.
Game looks fairly nice and I'll try to look it up, though the occasional "realistic" sprite gave it a really amateurish-look, at least on the video. Nice use of Paint It Black there.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Well they are really. When people think of Shmups unless you know your stuff I bet people would think more Taito or Capcom or perhaps even Cave (if they fooled around with MAME a lot), Kaneko would be bottom of the list some were in comparison.
Agreed though those realistic sprites are totaly "WTF!?" materal, hell if they left them out perhaps it would be one of the most stunning Shmups ever made? I say that because for 1992 graphics, those are wonderful graphics!
Thanks! Another game I have to try. I've been stuck on Rafflesia quite a long time it's just great!
Edit: I just watched the Rafflesia review again and I loughed my ass off when you said "for example the name of the game rafflesia is actually the name of the boss itself... well ... okay that may not be too..." or sth like that.
