A little reminder for this week's hot prizes. :)

Super Laydock's luckly number:
Super Laydock wrote:A little late with announcing the new prize (holiday to blame), but here it is.

A new random number has been drawn and the player ending on the rank position corresponding with the drawn number will win this prize!

A used, but mint and complete copy of Taito best version R-Type Final (NTSC JP)!*

Once again I'd like to wish everone well in the competition and who knows maybe this time YOU are the lucky winner!? :D

* picture taken from ebay auction, due to still not having a decent working camera. Except for the seal and sticker the game to be won is exactly the same
And for the first place:
professor ganson wrote:This week's first-place winner gets to pick from the following prizes:

Dark Cloud 2 (US PS2, new sealed)
Caravan Shooting Collection (SFC, loose cart)
Castlevania (NES, loose cart)
Good luck everyone and thanks again to our prize offerers. :)

Barely an improvement. Maybe I'll get a run in tomorrow and can top it but I think this is it for me... won't even move me up one position on the board... le sigh.

I... just... can't... understand... this... game... I can never pass the stage 2 boss. Once I tried some credit feeding for that and it took about five credits to destroy that. Too hidden for me.

I'm still trying, just had to submit at least one score because I'm so ashamed for letting down team members :( I've just been busy as hell.. luckily this game was quick to learn. And fun to play too, a good choice in every way.

Xargon, I just smartbombed the Stage 2 boss. I don't want to lose the end-of-stage bonuses by dying in a boss.

But what are the real criteria for getting the Perfect bonus? I get it every time in Stage 1, but didn't get it after Stage 2 even though I didn't miss any bonus medals?

But I'll have to use most of the bombs to survive the stage 1 boss.
This game truly has so F'ng hard bosses. The patterns are little annoying and it's somehow difficult to realise where are the bullets going. Or maybe it's just me...

A slight improvement:

Shocky - Team Skandinavia - 868,620 - Stage 3 (MAME)

Xargon, you do use the "Crazy missile!" weapon, don't you? I think it's the most effective. You could try saving at least some bombs. In stage 1 boss the lasers can be quite easily avoided if you just look at them when they are taking their final direction, instead of concentrating on your ship.

I still don't get the Perfect-bonus.. even with 50% of the 2k medals and 0 missed, without dying. And still don't know how the speed-up is activated. Mastering that would help a great deal.

My worst enemies:

-Hunter-Seeker weapon
-Desperate attempts at waiting for a bonus to turn to 2k.
-This goddamn Windows-key between Ctrl and Alt keys :( I changed the keys but still old instincts win sometimes and in tight situations I try to hit Alt. Anyone know how the Windows-keys can be deactivated.. for good?

Let's post the teamscores de gozaimasu~ !!

AIR GALLET - namakoteam RECORDS:
  1. 6,811,310 - Icarus - ALL (Lx0)
    < HS TABLE > -> replay verified <-
  2. 3,488,050 - mulletgeezer - 6
  3. 3,073,620 - Smraedis - 6
    < DEATH > < HS TABLE >
  4. 3,044,640 - DEL - 6
    < PROOF > < HS TABLE >
  5. 2,605,900 - freddiebamboo - 6
    < DEATH >
  6. 1,083,120 - elbarto - 3
Scores to be updated by my team within the next 18 hours, when they feel like it.

As for my score, one life gone at the stage4 boss (as usual), one at the stage5 boss (bad mistake), one at the last boss first form (another bad mistake). Made sure to use up all bombs before dying, however, and I could finish with at least one life left in reserve if I cut the mistakes out.

This game has pissed me off thoroughly all day. Decided to to give it one more go with a kind of one-last-run-mentality, not expecting anything. I´m glad I did.

One-lifed to the fifth boss (first time past the fourth boss on my first life) where I lost two lives. Is it even possible to dodge all that shit while the arms are intact (?) I would love to see a replay... Did get to see the final boss for the first time but he ate my two remaining lives in 15 seconds. :(

Edit: Blurry photo. Print screen won´t cooperate...

This game will just not give me the ALL.

Landshark - Supper Buffet S.T. - 4,002,750 - 6 (last form)

Wolf 108 Replay

And here's one of Total Mother Fucking Frustration. No missed to the level 5 boss. Got to the last guy with 2 extra guys and STILL pooched it. Pisses me off because I've beat him with only 2 bombs before. I hate dying with bombs in stock. Frustrating.

I actually saw the final boss. Reminded me of that mural behind Al Pacino in "The Devil's Advocate". Blew up a few of the gun spots, but I just couldn't dodge well enough to blow up all of them.
