Bollocks. I don't recall any foreigner ever being ridiculed here because of bad English skills. Darius11's mother-tongue on the other hand most certainly is English, and his posts made him sound like an imbecile who maybe, just maybe, should spend a little time reading a book instead of playing videogames every now and then. Or at least re-read his messages before posting them.JJG wrote:if a Japanese gamer were to come to these forums and they didn't know English well they'd get ridiculed.

Like Ceph & Rob say, we certainly wouldn't.I think it's interesting that a lot of shmup players bow down to Japanese gamers and mention things like "innate skill." Yet if a Japanese gamer were to come to these forums and they didn't know English well they'd get ridiculed.

I came very close, I used circle pattersSpace Harrier on the SMS, which is bragable.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

P.S. All your port are belong to ever. Or something.
But I never got arsed to hook up an HD at it. Are yours Scsi or IDE ?
And like Ceph already pointed out, yeah, it was a pirate version. The only original MSX software we had here in Brazil was national software... which many times was developed by the same people who would distribute pirated Japanese games, and then would complain people were pirating their software

Holy crap, I saw this thread when it first started and assumed I'd never see it again. Meanwhile it seems that some of you have been struggling with the same sort of problem that I have all week...
...I've spent the entire week grading papers and thinking about why it is that some native speakers have such trouble writing well. Is it that they don't think clearly? Is it that they aren't sufficiently careful? Or simply don't care? Surely there are different sorts of cases.
But more important than the issue of explanation is the issue of how to remedy the situation. Do people need to read more? Will it help if they concentrate on being more careful?
My simple-minded conclusions so far: Try to find some time to read and write each day. Proofread! Rewrite, rewrite, rewrite. Nothing I write is worth shit the first time it comes out-- that's why my contributions here are mostly crap. It's only the stuff I rewrite for a year or more that's really worth reading.

I was made curious by you're claim and did some small search
There are, in reality, no ancient references to the thumbs going either up or down in the Colosseum, at the vital moment of decision.
From this (quite niceand interesting) article on the origins of the thumbs up gesture.
I used it only with the modern meaning of the gesture in mind as I have no intention to have Shatterhand get slain or anything.

One, obviously it looks like many people think that writing is the same as speaking, so they write as they would speak a stream of ideas. No punctuation.
Two, many school systems revised their education programs to de-emphasize grammar, or not even teach it at all. I remember in elementary school not being taught 'grammar' outright untill the sixth grade, and it was cursory at best. The grammatical words I know today I learnt through French immersion.

...What was this topic anyway?

No shit it was the topic ever. Although I think that Darius11 will only live on in his now legendary phrase, for I believe we have scared him off. Let us all bow our heads in remembrance of his innocent (or idiotic) lack of grammer and punctuation as we carry on and take his iconic pseudo-english with us.

haha...I just now stumbled across this. Damned if I didn't agree with Rob on this one. Reading somebody who types that bad hurts my head (re: Darius). Maybe the kid was drunk or something? This thread along with "it's just you" rank among my favorites so far. But hey- at least I wasn't the one that dug the fucker up : P
