ESPgaluda... the port ever

Post by Strider77 »

I just got this today and I can see why so many of you bitch and moan about arika not porting the cave titles. ESPgaluda looks fantastic with no ugly scaling/filtering. I can only imagine now what Mushi looks like on PCB.

I remeber having a debate on here about the Ibara and Mushi ports being bad ect. I have to retract my comment and say they are poor ports especially after seeing this.

I haven't had much time to sit down with it so I'm still fumbling around with the mechanics for now. I'm sure i can check the tactics board for info on it.

I have DOJ on the way this week also and after seeing ESPgaluda I'm pretty excited for this as well. UGH!! I really wish more effort was put into the other cave ports but this has been said so often here it's like beating a dead horse at this point.

ESPgaluda is the port ever...!!!

PS.. if u don't get the joke check darius11's recent post.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I had DOJ for a while and its really really crisp looking compared to Mushi.

Graphics are sharp and colorful.. really really nice.

Not had the chance to try Galuda yet, but I can imagine what a sight to behold it should be :)

Mushi doesn't look half bad through component on my TV, but through the XRGB2 it looks really crappy.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

Yes, those ports are significantly better--I feel like a lot of care went into those.

Of course I also think DOJ and ESPgaluda >> Mushi & Ibara and I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't at least partially informing my opinion.

I just picked up ESPGaluda myself, games hella fun, beautiful, and innovative (faeries going around spilling blood? Now THATS innovation ^^). DOJ doesn't have graphics quite on the same level in my opinion (Its what 2 years older?) But still looks great.
Still I have a soft spot for Ibara, game looks and plays great to me, if it just didn't have those aggrivating glitches...

It was kind or ironic... i played mushi on a friends tv with composit and it helped the game look way better than on my tv with component. the low res made the ugly scaling/filtering not noticable or far less anyway.

espgaluda is the pcb evAr.

i am pleased with the ps2 port of espgaluda, along with ddpdoj.

and why is it that ddpdoj has a 16:9 mode while espgaluda doesn't?

strange cause mushi looks awful thru component on my projector..

anyways the port and the PCB are two different leagues with this game, take it from someone who owns both ;)

galuda and DOJ are indeed the ports ever (after garegga maybe), especially since they include extra modes AND superplays DVD = VALUE!!

give me some references and points to look for between the pcb and ps2 port, seeing that i too now have both. i'm curious, tho i doubt i'll play the ps2 version much at all except for arrange mode (i'm guessing)..

I'm still chuckling over 'the port ever', hopefully it doesn't get too old too fast like a lot of in-jokes on forums.

I like the arika ports because they let you save a replay which is great in itself, but it also serves as a level select/practice mode for espgaluda arrange. What I would have liked is the option to turn the sound effects down a bit in DOJ but it doesn't really matter.

I don't understand the graphics thing though, please believe me when I say I'm in no way attempting to provoke anyone here, but I play in yoko anti most of the time and just today I was playing DOJ without it and it looked like such an ugly, flickery mess on my TV.

There is a legitimate question in this: What am I supposed to be displaying the game on for this low res thing to look good? Please no links to 20 page recap threads I get a headache trying to read them. I just want to know what can display this setting to its full advantage, because it can't be a normal tv. I'm just trying to better understand this thing so I can be done with the impression that I could masturbate in public several times a day and come across as less of a wank then arguments over pedantic non-gameplay issues.

Heh, heh...watch the DOJ DVD or the replays on the actual game disc and just keep trying to chain like the player chains the first level...

After several hours of replaying the 1st level over and over I was curled up in the fetal position in the corner of the room...

Good luck!

ive me some references and points to look for between the pcb and ps2 port,
-Low res versus high res (looking at them side by side on proper hardware is sad... the PS2 version is so fuzzy & flickery... even in TATE mode).
-Some better slowdown (smoother in and out, and more of it) in the PCB version

i've had the same experience that mushihimesama looked way better through a composite connection. right up to that i almost would hookup my ps2 through composite for it.

it's pity that mushi is by far not as pretty on the ps2 port as it could/should have been.
always wondered if the scalling and/or filtering happens in real time and if that's the case that it would be possibl for someone with sufficient skill & knowledge to backward engineer the game and turn the cursed scalling & filtering off? would be awesome if that yielded a playable game for those of us with mod-chips in our ps2s.

It's possible, but involves some expensive equipment. Somebody has outlined it here: http://scanlines.hazard-city.de

You can de-interlace the picture and force it into 15kHz progressive mode (the mode with scanlines), but unfortunately you still can't get rid of the filter. Still, it looks a hell of a lot better.

I always think that might induce lag time. Since the converting chips need time to process and might also need to buffer a few frames in order to reverse the process(deinterlance). :?

This just what I thought, I am not an expart on this. But I do think given the cost of these equipment. You could have the Acrade PCBs running at home.

Well, forcing it to run at progressive mode might just be the best option. I am wondering PS3 might allow us to do this to a PS1 or PS2 game.

Like UFO said, put your TV on its side and select TATE in the screen options.

Also, if you live in Europe, you can probably use an RGB scart cable to connect to your TV and the picture will look much better. Not sure what US people do for RGB...

Indeed, the garegga port is outstanding. Does anyone know the story behind it? I know Electronic Arts published it, but who did the coding? Did Raizing themselves take care of it?

I have an RGB monitor. The Mushi port still looks like shit.

I'm impressed. Indeed the port ever!

I like how the game is more merciful to the player. I even got to the second boss on my first credit. I couldn't even get to the first boss in DDP DOJ on my first credit. lol.

yes, very brutal indeed. I can get past the first boss easy and to the second boss with one life left, but chaining and all that bullshit...pffff.....its like this game forces you to play good or die. I love it.

Maybe this is why I love DOJ even though I am so terrible at it. The game plays no games about either being perfect or dead. Having that ultimate challenge laying around is something, even if I know I'm probably never going to 1cc it (maybe if I get a year off from work...)

Darius11's quote is already infamous...

It's not going away anytime soon. Especially with strider still around as he took it to heart the quickest.

Not that that's a bad thing. :D
