yeah, you'd have to wait a few weeks, but seriously. Give him a PM. See what he says. He could use a calling. He's a good guy. I wanna observe how he wants to run shop anyway.Nemo wrote:Perhaps I'm cooking something up.It's kind of hard to start another tournament when there's already one going on, eh?

I can understand how one would want to wait a few weeks before stirring something up. I'm not even competing, I'm just sort of shadowing you guys and playing the games to compare scores and I am getting a bit fucked up. I can only imagine what kind of wierd stuff you're all going through, especially since most of you are adults with jobs and families and other responsibilities. My only responsibilities are school and Cross Country.DJ Incompetent wrote:yeah, you'd have to wait a few weeks, but seriously. Give him a PM. See what he says. He could use a calling. Yeah, I might send him a PM after the tourney (there I go again) comes to a close.

Oh, trust me. I'm knee-deep in school too. I can attest STGT isn't exactly helping with me trying to graduate...aaaand it's my fault...so..yeah.
A beauty of this place is 16 year olds can take on 44 year-olds and nobody gets looked down upon...well...unless they call anything or anybody a "gay hitler faggot facist retard".... then...well...then somebody like The Rando may rip the kid apart with beautiful linguistics and the guy may get a looking down upon till people forget...which is an easy time-lock.
Find the permanent hi score threads of the same games we're playing and submit to them. Kinda the same thing...-ish?

I would if the scores even came close to worthy of the bottom rung.
For example:
Air Gallet - under 50k
Star Force - Forgot, but probably under 100k
Dragon blaze - A little better. almost 300k
I have submitted to the Highscore threads before though.
Don't worry about me calling anybody a "gay hitler faggot facist retard". I like to think that I am above that. I don't harness the power of speech quite like Rando, but I am pretty sure I can come up with something that has a little more thought and sting to it then something that uses synonyms for 'gay' twice in the same insult.
But seeing as this is such a pleasant forum, it shouldn't come down to that. We are almost like a gated community, only less stuck up and probably less wealthy.

Since we were competitively talking in the STG tournament thread, I want to add that:Icarus wrote: There was an 8bit Classics Compo on the old Gamespy forums as well, and that was well received.
I WON THAT TOURNAMENT. I AM GREAT!
Now everyone shut up please.
Ramus weekly shmeet games were picked by a pool with 5 options. I was helping him, so one week I decided the games on the poll, he decided the other week. Sometimes we would have a theme on the poll, other times it was just different games thrown around.
At one week we voted for Soldier Blade, and then someone figured out that game had a scoring bug, so we cancelled that week... and then the thing never got up again properly.
I think the problem is that mantainig something like that for EVERY WEEK is very demanding, both for the players and the organizers. the STG tournament works because we have a week break between games, and we have a defined amount of time for the tournament (6 weeks).

I have to agree with you, that's why I said in an earlier post "Something a little more casual than the current tournament." or something to that effect. Like every 2 weeks, or just whenever the competition organizer decides to have a competitive week (within reasonable time constraints, like 'X number of games' in 'Y number of weeks'.
I guess that brings up a small issue. What's the balance between casual and competitive? If it is too strict and competitive then it will pretty much turn into this comp, except every single week until everybody quits out of frusteration. On the flipside however, if it is too casual and not focused enough, then there is no motivation to compete because you might as well just post in the highscore threads.

Until that day comes...well...you couldn't really have an honest, full-on reputation making and breaking tournament over the internets
Track down the Italy vs. Shmups.com thread..it's all there...

Haha, I am quite proud to be the one who pulled off that uber trick in Soldier Blade. I felt like McGuyver while I layed my pad on that book to let it constantly keep that button pushed.Shatterhand wrote: At one week we voted for Soldier Blade, and then someone figured out that game had a scoring bug, so we cancelled that week...
Now seriously about another competition:
I'd be interested to join another tournament as well, if someone decides to host one. Even if I'd need 1-2 months break after this one. And I am not seriously mad at Nemo, so I had no problem if he'd like to organize another "turney". Or anyone else who is interested?

Oh, I know. I meant competitive for the more laid back western types like us.DJ Incompetent wrote:Trust me. The one going on now is the Casual version. If it were the competitive version, somebody would be off developing some kind of lockdowned giga-secured uncheatable* version of MAME.

@ Edge:
I would be happy to help organize/maintain a tourney of some kind. I am much to much of a "n0oB" to organize a tourney on my own, not to mention my lack of extended motivation, but lending a helping hand is completely within my realm of ability.
Besides, I figure it's about time I got involved in something on this site besides gum flapping.

Yeah well I quit after the first week (Legendary Wings) when I spent like 2.5 hours hours getting to the 6th round of the game only to have my score disqualified because someone decided that scores would only be based on the first round. Didn't feel like wasting my time if they were going to keep changing stipulations mid-week.Shatterhand wrote:Since we were competitively talking in the STG tournament thread, I want to add that:Icarus wrote: There was an 8bit Classics Compo on the old Gamespy forums as well, and that was well received.

Yeah, I remember that, it sucked. I must admit I felt lucky that I only begun playing the game after that incident. I'd be frustrated if that had happened to me too, but it made sense.
Legendary Wings was a bad pick anyway. Cigs only beat my score because he slept later than me that day, so he could post the last score.
That game had the same stupid mistake of Soldier Blade, you could just keep pressing a button in a certain position at the boss and keep milking it forever. Anyone with patience could rack up a big score. In the last 2 or 3 days it was really stupid, as everytime someone came with a 1st place score, someone else would come with another better score in a matter of minutes.
The other 3 choices were good though, including Zanac.
But whatever, you would NEVER BEAT MY ZANAC and RECCA scores, so shut up you too.

You did nothing which made me mad.Nemo wrote: Why would you be mad at me? What did I do?
I just wanted to point that out. Because the tone in the prior thread got a bit heated up and some might await I'd like to nitpick "on purpose" if you start another tournament. Which I would not do.
I didn't take your complaints personal or anything.

Since it's tourney-fever all-up-ins nowadays, it would appear Danny has started a competition for fans of casualness. Pirate should ask the guy if he needs backup.
