"In the era of chaos, the Earth and the Moon were at war with each other. A daredevil from the moon, piloted a bizarre aircraft. It was feared, and because of it's shape, it was called......Einhander."

I love the intro to Einhander, the music gets me all pumped up and ready for the game.

I'll add two more:

Sanvein:
Really, this game has wonderful presentation, and the intro is very kinetic.

R-Types:
If anything, for the scene where the R9 is surrounded and just before the aliens release their charge shots, the Force Pod comes out of nowhere trashing all of them!

I'm going to throw in another vote for Philosoma. I popped that in yesterday to have a go at it and was still amazed at the quality of the intro & cutscenes, epsecially for as early in the life of the PSX as that game was.

Also, Shooter: Space Shot had some good animation in the cutscenes. The dialogue was corny, but the animation was good.

Armed police Batrider's intro was way cool, especially with that music in the background (ZeroCop)

Also, I actually prefer Gradius V's intro to III/IV, because It's easier to see what's going on. I can see many getting seizures from that...!

That intro would have been so much more interesting if it was 16 minutes shorter.

Not really a cinematic, but I love the 5-second intros for each character at the beginning of the first stage in ESP Ra.De. They are a marvel of economy, establishing a seperate character and motivation for each with only the briefest snippet of animation. Irori's is my favorite.

No mention of Spriggan and especially the sequel (if in name only) Spriggan Mark 2? The latter is filled with sweet anime-esque intros and sequences between levels. I just wish I knew what they were saying. It looks like a good-ol' military mecha-action anime, which is, after all, the best kind.

But the best part is that for those times when you just want to play the game you can turn them all completely off and play without any interruptions whatsoever.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.
