Is there any chance we could have a shmup developer forum?

This is the main shmups forum. Chat about shmups in here - keep it on-topic please!

Is there any chance we could have a shmup developer forum?

Like the topic says, since programs/engines for creating shooters are become more widely availble, I think it'd be nice to have a centralized location for shmuppers to talk strictly about development, or advertise their shmups. There just aren't enough shmup communities around, and as far as I can tell, there aren't any places for the shmup community to purely talk about development in the genre.

This is merely a request/idea, so you can take it with a grain of salt. But if you check out various game making forums (Such as the GameMaker community) you will find very few shmup enthusiasts, this makes exchanging info/ideas/techniques quite difficult.

So true. Coding problems and issues you can discuss but there are very few people to chew over ideas, gameplay balancing issues etc. with.

No offense, but are we just adding new forums on every whim the community has? Was there discussion among the mods and administrators? I'm just surprised how suddenly this happens, it seems like in the past when people have made a similar suggestion, there was more discussion. Forum regulars would weigh in, a mod or two would say they were discussing it amongst themselves, and then a while later a new section of the forum appears. This is just *BAM* new forum.

We clearly aren't adding new forums at the whim of the community, we don't have console fanboy forums!

Seriously, who cares? It's specific topic that makes sense as a seperate forum, and the people who are interested in it will be able to post as many threads as they'd like without feeling like they're cluttering up the less 'serious' discussion areas. I was a bit shocked it's taken this long to get one, and I don't even plan on reading it.

I've had this proposal in the works for months. This thread was a nice coincidence. Enjoy.
