Single Greatest Achievement?

Post by ktg »

I'm curious as to what would be the single greatest achievement the members of this forum could accomplish. It would be something that gives every member a sense of pride and utmost respect to the person who did it.

The obvious thing would be to get a world record score on any game, but I'm looking at more within this forum only. What could someone accomplish that would make them be remembered?

Would it be a True Final Boss, a 2-loop 1CC, a 1LC, or achieving a certain score? Thoughts, ideas, and motivations welcome. :)

I owned Radiant Silvergun once. I also played R-Type Final for more than 5 hours.

Someone should practice DOJ for a few years straight and only post a score when 2 billion points has been reached.

I have yet to achieve a feat that would be impressive enough for anyone to recognize my achievement(s).

This might be an inside joke I don't get, but I've read people in hi-score threads who say they'll only post when X score is reached. Personally, I'm gonna post every damn time I move up a rank. I think it's good to see progress and it promotes competition. I was pissed at first when the DOJ table was reduced to 20 entries, bumping my ass off the table. But, in reality it's the only shmup I've played since. Just trying to get back on the board.

I played manic games full of bullet patterns and webs, yet I was able to remain a man with taste instead of a well trained dodging-bullets ape. ^_- (thanks to Icarus for the blinking face)

No, it'd just be uncommon in both an accomplishment and restraint in not posting progress. It wouldn't be quite as memorable to people if it's a little demystified by showing the exact amount of time it took between updates and such. This wouldn't work as well if it wasn't an already registered user with some posting history.

And of course don't post any proof until requested!

i withstood 7 episodes of maria-sama ga miteru

i played 7 hours of r-type final

serious answers:
i know what gameplay mechanics and refinement are, despite having been exposed to r-type final for that long

i also know what a quality anime is, despite having been exposed to that much maria-sama ga miteru

i also one lifed to 2-7 of raiden fighters on a cab and proceeded to lose it all on the last boss Image
so long and tanks for all the spacefish

I'm still playing shmups after all these years, even with new video game systems.

I call that an achievement.

This doesn't have to do with shmups but last weekend I played a 50 minute match of Magical Drop 3. If you know anything about the game, matches between good players usually don't last longer than 30 seconds.

After 30 minutes we paused the game to laugh hysterically. By the time 40 minutes had rolled around we were beginning to realize the game might never end and we began to formulate our own plans for winning. At 45 minutes we started kicking, pushing, hitting buttons on each others controller, etc.

At 50 minutes I won, damn gaming is kind of a sport if you think about it.

That's noting, I was playing Columns one player mode for two fucking hours. I don't have a life.

I've 1CCed Image Fight II (took around a half year of practice, which is fair enough).

Anyway, if anybody here ever gets the perfect score in Batsugun Special Ver. (something that I'd never feel motivated enough to even approach), I'd feel that we finally made it to the big leagues in scores (not that tviks doesn't seem to hold the world record in numerous Gradius games already).

You probably missed DEL doing exactly that a few months ago, then.

Arcade like?
Well there's always the official Sega USB Virtua Stick.
Seemed good when I tried one a while back.

You could ask the world record holders for the A and B ships to join the forum. They have broken 2 billion each. :D

The only shmup related achievment I've accomplished isn't entirely special. Just a 1cc of Ikaruga with a very mediocre score. I think I barely broke 20M or so.

Been playing shmups 'seriously' for like a year and a half. I've 1cced espgaluda and ibara arrange, both with around 30~40mil. I think I'm doin pretty good so far, but I dunno if I'd ever to be able to 1cc harder games.

Edit - Oh and I made it to the high score board (5th place!) on dangun feveron twice! Seriously that was about as hard as 1ccing ibara arrange.

I suck ASS. Haven't done a 1CC in ages and I can only do Soukyuugurentai and reach third loop in Gradius Gaiden.

In addition to Gradius, I also used to have the best outside-of-Japan record in Sega Rally 2. I also used to have the fastest Metal Gear Solid 3 speedrun, but it has been surpassed by at least 2 people since I stopped playing.

I'm third on the Homura score board on here. If I cleared it, I could probably top it, but I don't know if I have it in me.
Feedback will set you free.

There have been many big accomplishments, Rob's Zerogunner 2 2-All, Del's counter-stop on Batsugun, Valgar's Ikaruga scores... There are many that have a lot of respect, as for one accomplishment standing high above the rest, well, having a WR would be something. BBH holds it for Shocktroopers AFAIK.

I earned some respect for Dangun, but I think that was more because few had gone after it on here. Ok, I'll start working on that 2 billion in DOJ, see you in 5 years :P

I beat Strider on the Mega Drive EVERY day for a str8 year starting with christmas day. I even got to the point where I timed a run. My best was somewear around 9 to 14 minutes. I was proud of that back then, I was in 6th grade.

I played and beat it so often that I realized that I had been coming home from school and beating it and on the weekends for about 3 months so a friend joked on how long that would go on for. So I decided at least a year and it was really easy for me to do. My arm needed to be twisted to NOT do it on a daily basis. I was obsessed with that game and it was my 1st import. It was all down hill from then on. Plus I got TF3 that same christmas....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I can only do Soukyuugurentai
Be proud you spent the time on that game b/c it deserves much attention...

please no hating on that game  I LOVE it, I have a huge soft spot for that game. My only complaint is a few more levels, but that's just b/c I want more so bad....
