Sylphia developed by Compile, says Japanese Wikipedia

Post by Ceph »

I found an entry on the history of Compile which should put any speculation to rest if Compile made the game:

1993年
シルフィア PCE トンキンハウス SCD-ROM2 (開発のみ)

Which means it was published by Tonkinhouse while Compile only developed it (開発のみ).

http://kelesis.free.fr/hp/compile/index.htm

That website also lists it as well.

Never played the game though.

It doesn't exactly play like a Compile game, though it is incredibly easy. I like the atmosphere, but, like a Compile game, as soon as you find the best weapon, it's a cakewalk.

Yeah true, Sylphia was developed by Compile and it was listed on their homepage page before it was taken down.

I wish that page still existed cause it showed hell of alot more games that Compile help developed. Such as Cyber Knight, Devil's Crash, Alien Crush for the PC-Engine; and Romancia, City Adventure Touch, and Asteka 2 for the Famicom.

A little OT, but I wouldn't say that about all Compile games. I tried to blast through Blazing Lazers with nothing but the laser weapon - I found that doesn't work so well in sections where the laser takes too long to fire or sets off elements in the background that make gameplay harder (like breaking rocks). I find myself switching back & forth between the laser & vulcan gun, as well as ocassionally using the shield weapon.

Anyway, I think the whole "that one weapon" argument that seems to be the norm for Compile in many of their games can not be applied as a blanket statement.

Also reported by this site which has tons of developer info on it. I'm slowly going through there making corrections to gamengai.

I only figured that Compile did the music for the game, and not the game itself. Guess I was wrong.

Yeah, I've heard this several times, too. That's why I posted this info.
