Ever use this Saturn controller?

Post by KBZ »

I need some pads to use my multitap with. Has anyone ever used this pad? Looks like it has a NeoCD type stick on it. Any good?

No, looks like shite. I suggest you just get the original Sega pads. I did and I have not regretted yet. Perhaps there are good 3rd party pads out there, but at your bomberman party do you really want one of the 10 contestants the scream: "This controller sucks, give me another on".

jp says that the bomberman pads are really good, actually. Surely there has to be some decent 3rd parties as well?

Anyway, you can get the nice model 2 ones for like $10 shipped, max.

haven't been able to find any bomberman pads.

It seems to be very difficult to find jp style saturn pads these days.

Yakumo said he could get me a bunch but at 10 pounds each =/

this official sega one looks pretty rad

Seems like the bulk of the pads available are those shitty wireless naki pads, and those yucky super8 pads.

are the ST pro pads any good?

I'd really like to see more of that box, otherwise I call BS on that controller. It's one thing to make a new design controller, but why Sega would only change the North American one (again) to that design is beyond me.
The boxart looks bogus anyway, and doesn't look like anything else Sega released regarding Saturn.

Sounds like you didn't go to Toys R Us much late into the SS's life. TRU (and maybe other retailers) sold these cheap controllers, which incidentally, don't claim official Sega support anywhere on the box or controller (no fine print) despite the adornment of Sega and Saturn logos. I have one myself but am not certain if it's legitimate or not (seems like the recent Target-Coach bag controversy).

The box looks like an HK knockoff and the controllers cheap plastic d-pad and buttons feel the same way (nowhere near the JP controller's quality, or even the original US controller's). Still, despite the cheap feel, the d-pad does work fairly well. The turbo switches are pretty useful but are pretty annoying if you have average to large hands and like to grab the middle-back of the controllers. I'd definitely still stick to the truly official JP pads.

Just get the Sega orginals, cheap controllers are always going to be cheap.

Wow, never seen those pads before (the dpads sure do look like the neo geo ones). Then again there's been so many variations. I've got two different third party pads (sunsoft and forgot the name of the other) and although they're pretty good, I'd stick with the original Japanese pads if given a choice.
