PS1 Raycrisis a perfect port??....
Finally got that video of Raycrisis, and it definately looks like my kinda shmup! So, how close is the PS1 version in terms of graphics and sound? I know Raystorm was pretty much perfect; that's why I was wondering about this one.

The reason Raystorm was such a good port, is because that ran on PS1 arcade hardware.
Ray Crisis is definitely not an exact port by any means. The arcade version runs from ROM on the same powerful hardware as Psyvariar Medium Unit and Psyvariar Revision. Meaning a port to the PS1 was always going to be overly ambitious. The PS1 port has clearly worse graphics and loading times. Both of these shortcomings are significantly helped when running it on a PS2 in smooth/fast driver mode, but it still won't be arcade-exact.

I played both of them I just say, WOW to the Ps1 ver. With Texture filter it looks a little neater then the pcb version.
I really see no big differences in both versions ( after watching the arcade version at home ).
And Raycrsis isnt expensive so take it

the PS1 Raycrisis is definitally not a perfect port, or even almost a perfect port. noticable downgrade from the arcade's graphics - that's to be expected since arcade Raycrisis runs on a board, Taito's GNet, that is more powerful than Playstation or even the board used for RayStorm: Taito's FX-1B, which itself is slightly more powerful than Playstation.
the GNet board (which is a heavily upgraded PS1) is probably a similar leap over the standard PS1 and FX-1B board that Namco's System 12 board (Tekken 3) was over PS1 and System11.

that said, Raycrisis is still a reasonable conversion of the arcade, since PS1 and GNet share the same basic architecture - its just that GNet is turbocharged

The music pause before a boss in the PS1 version does NOT happen on the G-Net one. Chalk that up to limited RAM in the PS1 console. RayCrisis is probably cut down about the same amount as Tekken 3 on PS.Thunder Force wrote:I don't know. Night Raid is about perfect except for the lack of 2P mode. That could be due to another ship on screen taxing the system more and causing slowdown. NR's abstract graphics may not have been as processor intensive as RayCrisis' stuff.
Kinect? KIN NOT.
