ARCADIA Magazine

Post by Mills »

I dont about the rest of you but it would be so awesome if ARCADIA magazine produced a european version, because it would just blow every other european videogaming magazine out of the water. put top established magazines like EDGE to shame. this is something that the ARCADIA magazine team should consider very seriously in competing for the european videogaming market. something which former japanese magazine GAMEST, should have realised long before its fall from grace of being the worlds BEST, and most INFORMATIVE videogaming magazine of its generation. Arcadia should take note today.

Yeah, but what games would they have to cover? :?

there's virtually no Arcade scene in Europe, or anywhere else outside Japan. :(

I would love to have a REAL japanese magazine in english language though, it would kick ass indeed. But it would mostly cater for importers, and I am not sure how big and consistant in buying this group would be. :?

Well, I never read that Edge magazine, I do know the german mags and there's no arcade magazine available anymore, there's just no market.
The regular videogame mags around are bought by some PS2 or Xbox owner and casual gamer who wants to read about GTA, Halo, Pro Evo, Tekken... you name it. There's no way Arcadia would sell well here. We're the last dinosaurs...

I read a lot of magazines btw, not only computer or games related but also about politics, film, sports and stuff. As I'm an avid MMA (freefight) fan I wanted to subscribe to MMA mags 3 or 4 years ago but the best ones available were japanese obviously. So I bought them trough a third party but eventually stopped because just owning them and looking at the pics wasn't really satisfying anymore as I couldn't understand a word in it.

I just mention this because I'm surprised about you guys here who are interested and willing to buy them despite the mags being written in japanese. Maybe it's different a little with games, just looking at the pic series in strategy section might be helpful and worth the price. Or it's just about owning them damn mags!

There's this voice in my head telling me to get one and try it out but I feel I'll pass here because of my previous experience.

What about the ones who own some Arcadia issues, is it worth for you? How much can you gain from them issues?

@oxtsu: Thanks a lot for the mrermine link. Seems much cheaper than Masato Internet Servcie or Play-Asia.

Problem is no western mass media for videogames covers skillfull gaming at all.

only PC online games get any kind of attention, all videogames of japanese origin are just treated as entertainment unless easily explained to the uninformed (sports games).

i would really like to see competetive fighting games being given some attention, along with shmups and other deep single player games. but most people dont understand why you would want to become a master of a virtual world (unless its an online game).

people are mashers and dont know any better.

(btw i am a tekken/fighting games player mainly)
