I recently bought my first Saturn, and there is one thing about it that has been bugging me.
For the most part I can hardly hear it, but when the cd spins up there is a loud crunching noice. It is a brief sound, but very noticeable. I have never noticed this kind of sound before from any of my other consoles or cd-drives.
Should I be worried about this or is it normal?

Um, doesn't the DC make loud laser-base movements when it starts up? I don't think it's only my machine (unless there's some foreign substance grating against the drive, which indeed is probably what's causing it in your case). Newer model PS1s also have fairly loud laser-base movements.Spitlips wrote:I have never noticed this kind of sound before from any of my other consoles or cd-drives.
But yeah, the SS has no weird sounds.
I had a look inside, but from what I can see there is nothing interfering with the cogwheels to the laserunit. The unit slides as I believe it should and I can see no wear on the cogwheels. I used some lubrication on the rod where the laserunit slides.
The DC is the noisiest console of them all and as you said there is a sound resembling the one I get from my SS.
