ibara vs ibara black label (pcbs)
i've been searching through posts and haven't seen this question answered yet, maybe i'm blind, maybe i'm impatient..
what are the differences between the 2 boards? does black label add on functionality or change the functionality completely?
is the art provided in the kits different?
any other differences you can reference would be great as well. things like the modes and selections on each of the pcbs?
thanks,

ok, i found alot of good information in the location test thread... a bit unintuitive, but its here:
http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?t=7308
the main things i was interested in if black label held both regular ibara and the new modes, which it apparently doesnt.
secondly, it looks like the art is indeed different in the black label kit, which is good. looks like the black label kit is definately worth getting...
.. what does this mean for my pocket?
anyway, i'm looking at having a shmupmeet as i indicated in the shmupmeet thread, i'm not sure but i think having black label ibara might be pretty fun eh?
guess i'm eating bologna sandwiches for 6 months..

Not really. Most people think Ibara is better. The only person I can recall who thought Black Label was better was Resoglas. And you know what that guy's opinion is worth.ill6 wrote:most people seem to think better.
Black Label is cool and a bit fun to play, but it is about 3 times more expensive atm, and all the bullet scratching you have to do to score seems to break the game. If you can only buy one board, buy the original Ibara.

I went through the differences in another thread but basically, I don't plan on parting with either. Ibara is more old school hardcore, BL is a bit more upbeat and manic. Both reward the player in different ways.
Just don't judge BL on Ibara Arrange. Although the formula is 80% the same, BL has way more balance and finesse.

ramen or bologna... i'd choose ramen, maybe with a pbnj mixed in between.Icarus wrote:Ibara vanilla flavour for the win.
I hear its gone down to $300 for the kit now, so you only have to live on ramen for a week or two. ^_-
i know little about the INH videos, are there seperate powerplays for Ibara and Ibara Black Label?Twiddle wrote:The Ibara INH videos confuse me they throw rank control out the window by stage 2

Enemy count goes up faster than HP and bullet count, allowing for better milking of certain bosses. Bullet speed does not increase. Add to the fact that every pattern in Ibara is designed to be possible at max rank (Cave influence?) and rank controlled play becomes obsoleted.BulletMagnet wrote:Maybe they hacked the ROM already and found out that all the techniques we're currently using are completely wrong, heh heh.Twiddle wrote:The Ibara INH videos confuse me they throw rank control out the window by stage 2
This isn't how Garegga is played, but this is more like how Bakraid is played, only you can actually navigate through the bullet patterns.

I seem to remember that they jack it up for the stage 3 boss as well, and I can't see the rank counter going down in stages 4 and 5. Are they just keeping it constant there?Icarus wrote:They don't discard rank control at all. They use enough of the techniques to keep the rank manageable up until stage6, where they discard them completely, to try and get to Teresa with maximum rank (making hadou milking of the drone spew on her second form more... lucrative).
I think I'm going to have to execute the Border Down philosophy of more rank = more points (I know, suicide for bombs) and not last more than a minute in stage 4.

From what I know, dying twice at the stage3 midboss negates whatever rank increases were gained from miling Midi with 3x Burner (and I can't imagine using 3x Burner would drive the rank up that far). And again, dying a couple of times against Kasumi (normally depleting the spare life each time) should knock off enough rank to make stage4 and 5 manageable.Twiddle wrote:I seem to remember that they jack it up for the stage 3 boss as well, and I can't see the rank counter going down in stages 4 and 5. Obviously the item rain during Kasumi would bump rank up a lot, but the occasional suicides are enough to keep it from hitting stupid levels.
As for the "Border Down Philosophy", I don't see it working in any other areas besides against Kasumi and Teresa.

I seem to recall some tipsheet or something like that regarding Ibara (maybe the booklet that came with the PS2 port...or an Arcadia article?) saying that if the game's rank got too high certain sections would become "impossible." Maybe I recall incorrectly...anyone else remember this? Not like it matters a heckuva lot, seeing as there's a rather thin line between "really honkin' hard" and "impossible" in games like this, heh heh.Twiddle wrote:Add to the fact that every pattern in Ibara is designed to be possible at max rank (Cave influence?) and rank controlled play becomes obsoleted.
