Raiden III PAL delay?

Post by dakidski »

It was scheduled to this month, now I'm not sure anymore? According to play.com its 'due for release' - yet no date is specified.

http://play.com/Games/PlayStation2/4-/9 ... oduct.html

Then I heard some rumours about indefinite delays etc. Anyone know anything?

For some reason the 505 Game Street website still says July 2006, even though the site has been updated in the last couple of days. I'm tempted to try and contact them about Raiden III, but fear that I might not understand any response they might make. Consider the following official description of the upcoming survival horror game, Rule of Rose:
Rule of Rose is a very frightful story about a girl, named Jennifer, and her dog, Brown, keeped in the mouth of “Nobles of the Red Crayon”, a devioush club formed by evil and crazy girls.

This is disasterous - surely it can't take until March 2007 to optimise the PAL code - Jap PS2 owners will be playing Raiden IV before then - probably

Seven months is a huge delay, big enough to make me think (well, hope) that it's not true.

Well, there was/is a delay in Raiden III over here, and I think that a lot of that has to do with the fact that (hopefully) SCE will be more willing to allow shmup ports now that the PS2 is near the end of it's life-span. That's what happened with the PS1, at least.

I doubt the delay has anything to do with optimisation. Despite being a relative newcomer to the UK market, 505 have been churning out a lot of titles. Half their catalogue are the cheap (and occassionally cheerful) Simple 2000 budget line, so Raiden was probably a relatively expensive license for them. Combined with all the other titles they've got on the go I expect they're stretching their manufacturing and marketing budget pretty thin. The fact that half their titles are impossible to find in brick-and-mortar stores compounds that possibility (I've yet to see a single copy of Homura or Dragon Blaze on the high street). If that's the case I'd expect them to rank their release schedule to bring out the expected higher sellers first. We could be looking at a situation of having to wait until the publisher can afford to publish the game!

...or it could be something else entirely :D

The official site still says July '06 :P , but Play.com have finally removed their helpful "Due for release..." note and put a new date up. According to them it will be out on 29th September. RRP has gone up to £29.99, and they're discounting it to £24.99. Play have a habit of making shit up so they can get pre-orders in, so there's no telling if either the price or date are accurate this time.

I'm sorely tempted to just import the PC version, but I feel like I should support a company that's actually putting in the effort and giving us PAL releases of recent shmups.

Well at least you guys might still get it. The North American publisher, XSgames has been silent with Raiden III for a while now. I'm starting to think they might cancel it >.<

BTW, their website is utter crap :P

24.99 UKP.... It's awfully expensive for 505gamestreet port...
I mean, Homura was 14.99 UKP and most of their other titles were way below that.

This price makes me re-consider.

The saga continues. Play still has the game slated for next Friday (29th), but the price has dropped to £11.99.

I know. I tried preordering it, but they only ship to UK. I hope it's a preorder bug and that the game will ship to the rest of Europe. The price is DEF right though! :D

Seems there is a new set of rules on play.com.
If you don't live in UK you have to select the EURO prices which are slightly higher!

11.99 ukp if you live in UK.
13.12 ukp if you live in EU.

Not alot, but still annoying...

another delay!
Due for release on 06/10/2006

That's it. I stopped caring. This game will (mark my words) never be released!

I have it pre-ordered on Play.com and I'm still very excited about. Afterall, its only a small delay, don't lose hope. I have also ordered Homura from there too, it should arrive on Thursday and I'm excited about that too.

By the way, I'm new to the forum. Hi. :)

Hey there, Oddysee. Interesting to see someone pick a platformer name on a shmup forum. :) I enjoyed the Abe games back in the day, even if they were bastard hard in places -_-'

Heh, I've been using the name for lots of things over the last few years and in that time, you are the only person to ever correctly state where the name comes from. It is indeed from the old Abe's game.

I loved both Abe's Oddysee and the sequal Abe's Exoddus. Both excellent games and yes, very hard in places. :)

Just to let everyone know, Raiden III has been released in Europe on Play.com. Its priced at £11.99. The latest release date for it was 6th October, so its actually been released one day early. :)

Just to make sure, I checked my pre-order on Play.com and its being processed, so it should be dispatched to me tomorrow which means I should get it in 3 days.

Cool, I'll go ahead and order it. Rather than being released a day early, it's usual practice that retailers receive stock a few days early, and the better ones will ship pre-orders so that they arrive on, or just after release day. Play did this with Yakuza a few weeks back, and I received my copy on the Friday it was due for release, despite the two day delivery time from Jersey.

It amounts to the same thing with a game like Raiden III. It's not like the brick and mortar stores will bother stocking it

The euro version is a nice release. As well as 60hz and tate, it also has art galleries, score attack and boss rush modes, and superplay replays of each level. The graphics are really crisp as well, especially in tate.

It's not yet released in the Netherlands, so I guess it coming to the UK earlier or something? I've just cancelled my pre-order last saturday, the gameshop said that they didn't expect it to come out here at all. Hope to see it soon though....

cd-rom or dvd-rom media? I'll update the mini-faq

edit: also, I'd like to know more about the yoko modes - I hope there is more than one level of zoom - the ideal would be to be able to stretch the screen as you will as seen in Psyvariar.

A good yoko mode is vital - I'm progressively becoming lazier when it comes to turn my tv to its side. There are no many games that justify the hassle.
