Recommendation Please
Can you guys please recommend some 1 player arcade joysticks that work with Windows PCs? Is the X-Arcade joystick the one to go with? Or is there something better for about the same price? Any links to websites with blueprints for homemade sticks would be welcome as well. Thanks.

Best is custom made arcade stick. I can reccomend UltraStik360 with addictional hard spring and restrictor plate kit.

We make them, but they're more expensive than x-arcade. (We use totally different parts/construction materials)
If you wanted to make your own, pick which parts you want and make the box tall enough to fit them all. As an example, a panel with Happs stuff needs to be taller than a panel with Sanwa stuff.

X-Arcade are arse. Avoid at all costs.
I have to agree GoPodular and destructor above: custom made is just heavenly. I'm in the process of making a batch of custom-built sticks for sale to some mates locally (no overseas orders, sorry). MDF boxes, steel tops with custom artwork under polycarb covers, all Sanwa parts.
Technically I could throw Happ in there too, but I really don't like their stuff at all. Japanese parts are more my thing, but that's all personal preference.
Either way, custom made means you get the style, shape and size stick that YOU want, and not that someone else things you would want.

Bah, X-Arcades are fine. For $100 you get the enclosure, keyboard encoder, (generic) buttons, and (generic) joystick. It sure as hell isn't the best, but until you custom build one, it's not too damn bad. Also note that at any time you can drop in any Happ stick or buttons without any modification (save the P360). Putting Sanwa sticks/buttons in there? Sorry, not going to happen without a custom mounting plate.
