"why shouldn't I get this tv?" thread starring Son

Post by D »

The only thing about this tv that's still putting me off is the fan noise.
It's a projection tv, so the lamp must be cooled.
The reason I want to get this is that it's 50" and it's durt cheap, but still a Sony.
It's resolution is 720 (1280X720) hd ready and has all needed inputs.

I'm trying to contact the damn shop which is supposedly open on Sunday
Anybody got warnings for me? I know it offcourse will not be as good as (Plasma) sets 3 times the price. But still if enybody got any experiences.
Please let me know. I've already read lots of reports, but from a gamers perspective, how will my Saturn and PS1 look on it.
It also has VGA so my DC might look great on it connected by VGA.
This might be a good deal for others as well on this forum, who want a cheap big hd ready set. The price listed on the Sony site is retail and yuo should be able to get the previous model KDF E50 10/KDF E50 11/KDF E50 12 for half that price. Snoop around!

Rear projection units of old suffered bad burn-in with static images on screen for long periods of time. As someone who's seen a lot of rear projection arcade monitors in his time, I've lost count of how many times they've had street fighter life-bars burned into them.

No idea what the new generation is like.

Not to mention you can't ever even think of using that beast for tate. :)

The fan noise wasn't really there, I hear the wind moving.
Bought the damn thing for EURO 999.
For that price I'm very pleased.
720P, 50".
Now to find a nice dvd player with component and progressive scan output. Offcourse this set does not have the same quality as a 3000 EURO set obviously, so I can't battle any other sets. It's big, it's cheap, but it's still lcd and lcd still has issues.

Component? You need a DVD player with HDMI! Component is shit on a digital display. You need to keep it all digital.

Jeez, thanks that makes alot of sense. Why even enter any form of analog conversion. I think they should make a cheap dvd player that you can only connect with HDMI, ommiting other analog outputs will keep the cost down. Any recomendations? I'm looking for a cheap HDMI dvd player then. The image doesn't even have to be upscaled right? I could let my tv upscale the 576 dvd to 720 right? Or is that not done with digital signals. thanks.
