How THE OFFICIAL POLL works:
As Rob wrote:DJI makes this thread, people post their vote in this thread, DJI tallies the votes.
How to vote in THE OFFICIAL POLL:
As Rob would have wrote:1. post vote in thread
2. post before Sunday 23:59 (11:59pm) GMT (switch board clock in profile)
Follow only these directions exactly and you will have voted correctly. No need to pay attention to anything else.
If you feel like learning more about the unneeded unused unofficial poll or other voting safeguards in-place, the details are in the fine print at the bottom of this post.

If you don't feel like switching your board clock, use this GMT timepiece:
http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com/
I will be using this clock to determine when it becomes GMT Monday morning to end the poll.

Your selections for Psikyo Week are the following:

Dragon Blaze

Image
Crazy midievil design. Knights riding on dragons. 4 to select from. Can jump from your dragon to fight on your own with a stronger charge shot. This is done with a third button, pressing once to send out, another to call back the guy.... sorta r-typish, only your little knight dude is what you need to keep alive, not the dragon. You collect silver coins for scoring, and you get gold coins by killing with your Dragon Shoot. You have a coin-dispenser to track down in every stage (by using dragon shoot)
Technical score bonus = shoot the boss using dragon shoot until it shows its core, a shiny orb, then move up and kill the core still using Dragon Shoot

Gunbird

Image
I hope you like pedophiles and gay chararacters! That is if you get the luxury of reading the storyline. This game is extremely basic and the oldest of our Psikyo choices. You got your regular shot and charge shot. Maxing out on powerup levels will time-out and lower you a level after a time. Scoring system?....er......put a big ‘x’ on that. Coins you find here and there are 200…um…getting a bomb when maxed gets youuu…10000 points? This game is as survival-friendly as it gets. Oh yeah, 5 Character choices.

Sengoku Blade (Tengai)

Image
One of the most un-documented STGs on the English internet. You will be on your own with your team forums if this wins…relying on the midweek strategy kindness of-course. 5 Characters, Alternate Stages, hidden coins, a little demon dude to charge-shoot. I’d just call it a horizontal Gunbird…but “blander”
CIT wrote:Sengoku Blade has the medal collecting thing. 2000pts if you collect them when they are turned to their flat side.

Space Bomber

Image
The WarioWare of shmups per se. “NO!! Go to Star!!” Seriously.....W.T.F.-times-8 I say to this. Seems to have more scoring mechanisms than all other Psykyo games put together. Fun boss stages, but a glorified Space Invaders. Galaxian + Strikers 1945 + G. Darius if you will. You have 8-way movement still. The big deal here is this little capture arm you can grab little enemies with and store up to 3 behind your guy. Depending on what you grabbed, you can charge-shot what you have and shoot them all off for crazy different results. Some guys you grab can charge-shoot as spread shots, lasers, shields, etc. If you hit the bomb button while charging, you launch your captured shit like a bomb…this is a key for boss fighting or bigger bonuses…like using it on entire enemy swarms for 100,000 bonuses…and moneybags…
Gentleman, this may be an information war at its finest....Unless my google-fu blows, of course. (no strat section, kids)
I’m totally playing as the tetris block!...flyin’ as the President...werd-up! *gangsta symbolz*

Strikers 1945 III (Strikers 1999)

Image
The magic of franchise awareness right here. ‘Cept 90s-era planes.
6 planes with that usual shot, charge shot, & bomb. Another Psikyo game I know does the Medal Chaining thing. Meaning touching the medals when they flash white for the point scorings. You may need an earlier version of MAME to play.
Technical score bonus = Fuck up the boss until it shows its shiny blue orb. Fly in close till it turns red and shoot it out.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

As long as these instructions below do not confuse you with the instructions left for you to follow above, here are all the fine print additional voting rules in place to serve more as "future week-long controversy insurance" or more accurately, "In-Case Shit"

*NEW* -A vote is a singular item from which you may cast once and only once via posting your choice in this thread. If you fail to cast your vote properly by breaking the rules below, it becomes a disqualified vote, forbidding you to cast again for this week. Therefore you may not disqualify your vote in the name of creating a second fresh vote.
-Only people assigned to a team on the first page of STGT 2k6 will have their votes counted.
-Even if you didn't play in a previous week, if your name is assigned to a team, you can still vote.
-If you post your vote and then edit your post, your vote is disqualified.
*NEW* - If you post ANYTHING in this thread (vote or no vote) and edit that post; if you posted a vote in a later post it will still be disqualified. (an exception will be made if the person who voted claims in his voting post that he did not in-fact post his vote in his earlier edited post. Another forum member must defend this claim, which will be accepted as proof [if it passes my judgement])
-If you post your vote and then post another vote again later on, I will only use your first vote.
-If you post your vote, post another vote later, then edit or remove your first vote post and I/we catch it, your vote is disqualified and other people should point and laugh at you.
-If you post your vote, but forget to specify any required additional detail where needed (course selections, etc), make another post with the rest of your information from which you still needed to vote on. Just don't edit either post or you'll break the rules above.
-..so basically, be careful and certain when posting here 8)

-To stop any chances of confusion for team voting, I ask that only Individual posted votes will be counted. Nobody can 'delegate' their vote to another team member or post their vote in the name of another team member. Obviously you may pm within your team as much as you want so you all can agree which choice to go for, but all 5-7 votes from a team will not count unless I see an individual post from every team member.

THE UNOFFICIAL VOTE with the typical polling above is just for fun. I threw it there to "keep things exciting" and to keep people in-the-know what game they are going to have to acquire and get running ahead of time. The unofficial vote up-top will have no bearing on which game wins the vote.

I will advise during the poll on where the unofficial poll is terribly inaccurate, however, official results will never be released until the end of the vote.

The Tiebreaker Clause:
The poll is scheduled to end at 23:59pm Sunday GMT. It officially ends when I or Edge post saying the poll is over. In the event at the time of the deadline that I detect a tie between the two leading candidates OR a candidate is leading by a single vote, I will extend the voting period by two hours to leave enough time to use votes to widen the gap between the two leading game picks.
After this second voting deadline has been reached, if there is still a tie or a single vote difference between our two leading game picks, another two-hour extension on the voting deadline will occur. However, this time members in teams with players that still haven't voted may cast the vote(s) on behalf of the players who didn't vote. Players who utilize this must specify the absent player he is casting the vote for in the same post as what he decided his additional vote will be.
After the third and final voting deadline has been met, if there is still a voting lead of a single vote, the chosen game still wins. If there is still a tie, Edge gets to pick the winner between the two games in question.

Thanks again for the pics Edge.

lol, silly Coop. Pounce on me 2 minutes in. My Heart Attack plan is thwarted now! Damn!!

The new fine print is basically loophole-closings to combat the bi-products I learned of through the case of Professor Ganson vs. Super Laydock. (Thanks for enforcing last week btw :) ) Basically I slept through that whole argument, so when I caught it everything had been edited, so I couldn't prove who did what and just had to take everybody's word for it. "Not again" I say.

Yes, I am talking with Edge right now about the Mobile Light Force situation. If it's going to turn into an arguement on this thread anyway, the way you can be productive and helpful is to bullet-point EXACTLY what gameplay changes MLF is from Gunbird. Not character name changes, not missing art galleries and story, not crappy cover art, not tate. Just the on-screen in-game differences or bugs on normal mode (unless you know Normal on Gunbird is the same as another on MLF).

 got the Red flags Rob.... good work :) Keep breathing! Ya talk like it's gonna win :P

I hate to say this since it's one of the few good games on the poll, but a warning to people with less expensive computers - Strikers '99 tends to run choppily. It's the only Psikyo game I have problems running, but it starts chugging every few stages.

Well sometimes my machine chokes when I load this game, but not during the gameplay after I have started the game for a few seconds it's running smoothly. And I am on a pretty mediocre machine. However I'd reccomend if you are playing this on MAME better try it by yourself and make sure it's running well and close all other applications before playing it.

Unless there are no huge differences I think we should count Mobile Light Force if Gunbird 1 gets picked. We also counted Batrider Korean version and I think to get wider accessibility it ain't to bad allowing different versions and ports. As long as they are compareable. That's at least my two cents.

Team members on the Drink & Fly. I coughed up a PM you should read.

So Rob, I ran into interesting stuff on the Dragon Blaze info. I think come mid-sunday if my team or your team hasn't coordinated on anything, we should go in personally on Dragon Blaze. A rivalry if you will

DRAGON BLAZE

Post by DEL »

I voted Dragon Blaze.

I figure that far more people will be able to play Dragon Blaze than Strikers 1999, due to the PS2 port of it.
So - Dragon Blaze is the sensible vote.

Psikyo shooters don't suit me, so I certainly won't be a threat :)
(Plus, yet again I will be away on business from Tues to Fri).

Ps. Glad you could make use of my pic DJ Incompetent :D

Space Bomber GTS (Go To Star!)

Serious vote, of course.

My vote goes to:

Gunbird

A word to my teammates: I'm going to buy Dragon Blaze soon, so Space Bomber and Strikers 1999 are the only ones I don't have access to. Hopefully I'll get some tournament action this time. ^_^;;

Not so sure about this "jump on and off the dragon" malarkey but Dragon Blaze looks fun. After all, it's got dragons in it. Also I've never played it before so should be a good laugh coming near the bottom of the score list once again!

I vote for Dragon Blaze

I can play Dragon Blaze through PCB or PS2, but how many other people can?

I vote this game without question, however, there shouldn't be any complaints if some teams can't get the minimum # of people to participate. This is assuming Dragon Blaze takes the crown after all. 8)

Here we go.

I need to think about this vote. I can either play it FTW and vote for the game I've already cleared several times, or do I want to get other kind of enjoyment out of it and vote for a game I'd love to play more.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

Thank you Ghegs :)
(I overlooked the bloody acronym. My bad.)

So here's what I've got now for the case against MLF: (new info from landshark)
-The ship that morphes into the airship (2nd form) doesn't shoot until you blow off its wings
-There is a table (tomb) miniboss near the end of stage 5 or 6 that doesn't shoot that is supposed to (I know it doesn't shoot but I didn't notice it as a bug...'cause...you know....it's a table!...why whould a table shoot?!)
-Missing enemies
-Some enemies don't shoot when they should

I could get a hold of the mame Gunbird and research if raising the MLF difficulty corrects the missing enemies and the non-shooting enemies. If the raised difficulty is "too much" for the regular game, that could maybe pass as proper compensation for a missing half a boss and missing part of a midboss.

The case for using MLF doesn't look too good. Want me to investigate, Edge or is that just too much for the case against it?

..it kinda...sorta is... :(

VOTE: Strikers 1999.

Dragon Blaze is damned hard. I'm suprised this many people are voting for it. It's definitely the hardest of all Psikyo games, easily topping Gunbird 2.

Typo? Freudian slip? Momentary lapse in concentration? Computer sentinence? Brainwashing? ( ̄▽ ̄)
