Eliminate Down
Eliminate Down
This is one that I have heard of from time to time and just recently saw. I was thinking about getting it. How much is this going for these days?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

It's gotten cheaper over the years. You might be able to snag one for $160ish. Brilliant game and one of my all-time favorites.

One of the best, sure, but there really aren't many great ones. Very nice visuals in EM, but the memorization style gameplay doesn't appeal to me, Gleylancer is one of the few console shooters I still enjoy (somewhat balanced, fun gimick, great presentation). It's sad, but I've finally faced reality, gone from being a Mega Drive fanatic to an arcade whore.

Yeah, I like Gleylancer, too. More stylish than ED, but less challenging. Gleylancer has a higher margin for error while ED is more like R-Type. Me thinks both are must-own.zinger wrote:One of the best, sure, but there really aren't many great ones. $200 is pretty steep but it is a fantastic game with (from what I understand) a very low print run. JP MD games have been declining a lot in price recently but back when I began collecting it was common to find low print run JP MD games is the $200+ range...decent games or not. Look at The Ooze, Comix Zone, and some of the Simpsons JP MD games and you'll see what I mean. Snow Bros and Slap Fight MD are way up there too even though theyre arcade ports.
So all in all, considering the fact that it's very rare AND a great game I think the price is very fair. and for the record I think it is the finest game on the MD next to Cotton. Gleylancer doesn't even come close

Yeah shit, Snow Bros is still $200 and up while Slap Fight is lingering around $100.segasonicfan wrote:$200 is pretty steep but it is a fantastic game with (from what I understand) a very low print run. To be an import MegaDrive/Genesis collector takes bones compared to most other more mainstream systems.
I think Eliminate Down is more challenging than Gleylancer without a doubt, but to say ED stomps GL, that's not quite fair.
I've definitely had more exposure with the latter so it's hard to compare at this point, but for the more recent pricings on ED, I'd say it's nearly worth it.
GL on the other hand can be found for around $60 which to most doesn't seem like such a bad idea.

Altough ED seems like a great game (I have tried it myself), I really don't think a MD game worth shelling out 200+Fighter17 wrote:I like ED, but it doesn't deserve the $200 price tag that people are asking for. I believe it should cost in the $100s.

And when you found you don't want the game anymore, it is very defficult to find someone to take it from you, even though you are willing to sell at 100+

It is not just a costly MD/GEN game, it is a extremly costly one. Since costly MD/GEN game usually sell for around 25 to 60, 200+ lies in the range of PCBs.

Unless you are 99% sure you like the game, I really suggest you should think twice before buying such a game.

How about getting the poor man's ED: HellFire instead. It cost around $5 to $15, and are still a very great game. IMO, if ED scores 100pts, HellFire at least scores 80+pts.

Yeah great game love the Gieger Alien style level themes, but seriously I've played this extensively via emulation and I wouldn't pay $200. thunder force 4 destroys it and most other hori's.
Steel Empire is not as good but its much easier and accessible, ED is definetly imho the better game. ED has a greater emphasis on fire power than SE and a more biomechanical atmosphere.
Its more like hellfire than anything else.

I have the Korean version of ED, and it was noticeably cheaper. It's virtually identical to the Japanese version, right down to the funky little "Memory"-like game (obviously, the artwork, manual and I believe the in game text was altered) . And I agree, ED is one hell of a good game. Just the right length and challenge, nice diversity in the levels, good tunes... it's a shame no one ever grabbed this and localized it for The States. I wouldn't put it above TF4 in terms of my personal favorites on the system, but it is right up there in the top five with the likes of TF4, Steel Empire, Gleylancer and TF3/Undeadline.

I can't believe that people like Steem Empire, I hate it with a passion.
I too, would be curious as to how you came across the Korean version of ED.Fighter17 wrote:How you got the Korean version of ED?

However, I will say this
Eliminate Down is better than Steel Empire, which is better than Gynoug, which is better than Bio-Ship Paladin, which is better than XD-R, which is better than...

A number of years back, an online site was offering a copy of it for $85, complete. I wish I could remember the name of the site, but all I can remember at the moment is that they shut down a year or so after I ordered it from them. However, I have seen copies of it at http://www.videogameimports.com, but they ask for quite a bit with their hard to find titles (especially since they're in British Pounds). I believe their asking price was something around $115-$130 for the Korean version last time I saw it.Limbrooke wrote:I too, would be curious as to how you came across the Korean version of ED.Fighter17 wrote:How you got the Korean version of ED?

And yes, I'm one of the few, the proud, the Steel Empire fans. I love the graphical style, and the challenge.
And at the end of the list he starts jumping platforms, gets to "Planet Joker," and can't continue any further.Limbrooke wrote:I too, would be curious as to how you came across the Korean version of ED.Fighter17 wrote:How you got the Korean version of ED?

If you're referring to the MegaDrive 3 that came out in Brazil, I honestly don't know. I know the MegaDrive 3 looks a lot like the Japanese and American v2 systems, but I don't know how much on its internal workings may have been changed (beyond putting on-board games in it).Jeffrey wrote:What machine do the people above use for Eliminate Down? Can a Megadrive Model 3 accept Japanese imports? Or do you need to get a Japanese Megadrive all by itself? (Sorry if this should be in Hardware.)
Well, according to the Genesis Import FAQ, the cartridge slot of the Genesis 3 is supposed to be able to take Japanese carts without a problem. Though it doesn't specifically mention whether they actually play or not, one would assume they would, since it's still a trimmed down Genesis unit. Despite having things like an expansion port, LED lights and such removed, the Genesis 3 core is still a real Genesis system. So if it plays US games without a problem, it should play Japanese and PAL games without trouble (unless the cart has a region lock... which Eliminate Down doesn't).Jeffrey wrote:Coop - My reference to a model 3 US-Genesis being able to play imports was based on one person's comments in a back thread in this forum. However, it was only one person saying it, so I did not know if this was common knowledge, or if the person could be wrong (before I try to bid for one on ebay).
So you should be safe to import ED.

BTW Gleylancer is great!
Mushime -sama for $115 USD HOW GOOD IS THAT!
An original what, copy of Eliminate Down? There are only two versions that I know of... the Japanese version, and the Korean version. Both are legit, as they were released by Soft Vision International and Samsung respectively. The Japanese version looks like this, and the Korean version, like this (sorry for the shitty scan). They both have the same levels, the same music and graphics, and even the same mini-game. The difference is the artwork, and the price.Shotgunfacelift wrote:how does one know if they have an original or not?The Coop wrote:A number of years back, an online site was offering a copy of it for $85, complete. The funny part is, that the Japanese version is far more common, yet it costs twice as much. Go figure.
