The first form is easy as there is a set pattern to the movements of the lasers. The second form onwards is where things get tricky, as Discharge likes to mix up different attacks. As far as I can tell, there are only ever two types of attacks randomly selected at any time, however some types of attacks are more difficult to avoid when in particular combinations. I've seen the worst kind of combination before - large bullet spread attacks mixed with the homing green lasers.

Pray you get the laser swords and red grenades when you reach Discharge. ^_-

9,672,580 - Macaw - 7 - Strawman(A) - Advanced course

I dropped my medals during the green tube bit just before the major hidden medals area!! Gaaaaaahhh I would have an A score if that didnt happen!!

I died on the turrets just before the first form of discharge (which were firing spread vulcan instead of lasers. does rank determine whether they fire the vulcan or lasers?

By the way Icarus, now that you've more or less hit the roof score-wise for an all strawman play, do you plan on becoming a true man and taking on advanced course with a garegga/mahou team?

Eventually. I want my C score first.
After that, I need to refine by ship and stage order in Normal Course in preparation for Advanced.
One thing at a time. ^_-

RE: turrets before Discharge - dunno, I think they are randomly selected. I think spread vulcan is somewhat easier to deal with than lasers at any rate.

Thank you sir, I have used them almost exclusively since I bought the game, just now getting decent scores with the team.

I bat my old Special couse score by 1000 points today, won't bother with the entry.

First score I felt like posting, after letting the game sit for 30 mins while the rank settled down. I'm not usually this patient, but watching Icarus' videos helped.

*updated*

Grats on the Normal Course ALL thesuperkillerxxx. From experience, a top-end Strawman only ALL for Normal should be in the 6.5mil range, and thats with all the milking techniques that I've demonstrated on the recent replays, and all three Rivals. Teamplay is harder but has higher scoring potential. Aim for the gold! ^_-

Nice score Dave_K. Good to see you're in on Advanced. Its not as daunting as it looks. All you need is to make the breakthrough into stage6 (Zenovia City) and you can tag on up to another 3mil. ^_-

NORMAL COURSE Mister Icarus!

Post by DEL »

This was my first credit at the International Shooter Meet in Milan last week. Its also my first credit ever on the JAP Version B board.
Its far from a perfect run, I lost my medal chain before the final stage & I didn't trigger Hayate. But I still managed to get 7.16mil on Normal Course.
Image
DEL - 7,161,500 - 6ALL - Strawman (A), Carpet (C), Flying Baron (B)

This run was recorded so that it could be put in the thread; http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
& on super-play.co.uk

However, I'm told that there is a problem with the DVD & the way it was finalized. I'm crossing my fingers for recovery of the full run. :o

NORMAL COURSE

Post by DEL »

Thanks!

I figure that if I hadn't lost my medal chain at the end of ST5 and triggered Hayate, I would have scored in the late 7s.

Anyway, like you say, its good to be the first to break the 7mil barrier :D

Just looking at your screenshot, DEL.
The Garegga ship looks more like the Flying Baron than the Wild Snail. ^_-
I don't doubt your score, but is your ship selection correct?

(Flying Baron = homing missiles, Wild Snail = homing flamethrower)

Replay

Post by DEL »

Yes Kaiser, I'm sure it would help you greatly.

I need BR1 and Neverland to sort out the problem with the DVD file, then its all systems go.

In the meantime, Icarus could provide you with a replay I'm sure!
