can you do me a favor and create another table for X68k version. it might give me some motivation to load it up again. and with a game as niche as this, it wouldn't hurt to have the different versions in one place. :)

Sure thing. Does it feature the same difficulty settings? Unfortunately I don't haven an x86k, I'll have to try the image with an emulator some time. Supposedly it's not quite as insane as the Mega Drive version, right?

well the difference isn't the difficulty (all three versions of Undeadline are difficult). i hate to use this word, but as i can't think of a better one, the mega drive version is "unfair." i haven't played it in a while so i can't elaborate on that. msx2 and x68k got versions that are just more intact (well, they were the originals). you get selectable characters, better control, a much more defined playing field. anyway, i'll try and give both a few runs tonight so i can elaborate even further on details you didn't ask for.

I actually managed to finish the MSX version like 10 years ago, and my ass is kicked badly in the Mega-Drive version. I guess this says something.

From what I've heard, the X68k version is the MSX one with updated graphics, sound and without slowdowns.

I think the T&E soft games were brought to the Mega-Drive by a different team who made the MSX originals. I am 100% sure Psy-O-Blade was made by a different team.

Damocles - 730,400 - On - Forest, Rock, Cemetary, Cave

Damn you, Dracula.

*shrug* Blame it on that new video. I have long since deemed the game unplayable. Not so much now.

I think you need to mention which version and what difficulty setting too.

Oops. Genny rev, with normal difficulty.

As soon as I get consistent with the Ruins boss, I think an ALL is on the way. I manage to get to him, but I'm an idiot and use all my shields before him. Needless to say, I don't last long. *shrug* at least I can fight back from a lost life on that level quite easily now. That is one thing the Genny rev has going for it. If you die, it's not terribly difficult to power back up. The fact that you can get any weapon from any weapon box helps immensely.

Damocles - 1,365,100 - On - Forest, Rock, Cemetary, Ruins, Cave, Drain

Normal difficulty on the Genesis.

Finally figured out that the dragon at the end of the cave deals damage when it flutters about. Simple blocking alleviated that problem. Dracula is still hit or miss for me. It seems like pixel-perfect positioning is necessary. As for the drain...well...the boss chucks out enemies when damaged, and I havn't figured out what the pattern is. Hell, they might not even be aimed at me for all I can tell.

Anyone up for a GD, or would that be a waste of space?

Damocles - 2,478,800 - On - (ALL) Ruin, Drain, Forest, Cemetary, Rock, Cave, Castle

Ending level: 18

Genesis revision, of course. Normal difficulty.

Damn. Actually pretty intense. I chose to do my worst levels first. Ruin is really no problem, but the boss has always been hit or miss for me. This time, my tactics worked. Everything else went swimmingly, and this run was a 1-life clear. It's really a good thing too, because the Castle level (or whatever it's called) looks to be a pain in the ass if not immediately fully powered up. I went into the human form of Dracula with a full shield, one hit point, and one bomb/option. Oddly enough, he gave me less of a fight than the Cave version. As for the final boss, I went in with a shield and one hit point (as it's right after the sub-boss). He's incredibly simple as long as you watch the eyes and his head. Didn't even take a hit.

Truly, one of the most misunderstoond and underrated shooters out there.

The final boss is simple, eh Damocles? I just got to him without loosing a single life, and then spent every extra guy I had earned trying to beat him. The furthest I got was when he started sending that spray of bullets down at me from his shoulders. I died there every time with full health and a full shield. I know going right up against him in the center keeps you safe from the shots that come out of his hands, but it doesn't do shit for avoiding the shot spray.

1,743,700 - The Coop - On - Forest/Rock/Cave/Cemetery/Ruins/Drain/Castle (Normal difficulty)

Edit: Nevermind. I was using the fire weapon, which is apparently useless against him basically. Tried a different one, and kicked his ass.

Edit 2: OH! Oh so close.

I got to him again without loosing a life, and then fucked up and died. I botched things up a couple time during the stage, but I finally beat him. It may not be a 1LC, but it's a 1CC with plenty of extra lives left. If I hadn't died those few times...

2,500,700 - The Coop - On - Forest/Rock/Cave/Cemetery/Ruins/Drain/Castle (an "ALL" on Normal difficulty)

Good job, Coop. Doubted me about the boss, eh? Did you read his patterns, or brute force him? As long as you get into a good rhythm and watch his eye, it's not terribly difficult or tense.

I think Ceph is dead...

Thanks you two :D

New score...

2,839,200 - The Coop - On - Forest/Rock/Cave/Cemetery/Ruins/Drain/Castle (an "ALL" on Normal difficulty)

As for the final boss, I strong arm him in the beginning, then I weave back and forth once the eye beam starts appearing. The only boss I'm really still having trouble finding a reliable way to kill off, is the Ruins boss. There's so little room to move around, and those blades he throws out are a major pain in the ass. That boss is a crap shoot for me right now, in that it's a 50/50 chance I'll get by him without losing a life.

I'm so close to a 1LC, I can taste it :(

Edit: I DID IT!

I 1LC'ed this game. I now officially feel like a fucking stud :D

The funny part is, my score was lower (only 2.6 million). Go figure.

And now, we try Crazy...

Sorry for not updating the high scores for so long; I didn't think anyone was playing Undead Line and I didn't check the thread.

Congratulations to Damocles and Coop for 1-credit-completing the game; before you accomplished this it was generally considered impossible.

@The Coop: 1LC? That's insane :D

I'd love to see a video of Undead Line being beaten; I don't suppose either of you made one?

I don't make a habit of filming/recording myself playing games. Partly because I have no cameras to do so, partly because I have no peripherals with which to hook my systems up to my PC or anything similar for recording, and partly because at 1KB per second, uploading it would take for-fucking-ever

Damocles - Easy - Genesis - 2,480,900 - On - (All) Ruins, Forest, Rock, Cemetary, Cave, Drain, Castle

I just randomly picked the game up, and since I've never played Easy mode, I decided to see if I still enjoyed it as much as I used to. I do, so expect some Crazy scores soon. 1lc, btw. Christ, as soon as I can 1lc Crazy I'll be set.

Damocles - Normal - X68000 - 294980 - On - Cemetary, Ruins, Dungeon, Forest, Mold, Mucas, Cavern

Damn Cavern boss...longest and most technical boss fight besides the Rock crawfish. This run wasn't helped by the fact that I was experimenting with the fireball and forgot that I don't know where the blue potions are in this level.

Damocles - Normal - X68000 - 314,500 - On - Cemetary, Rock, Dungeon, Cavern, Mold, Ruin, Mucas, Forest, Fortress

A very small improvement, but I finally made it to the final level. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to make it through the very first part. Giant friggin brain spew bullets endlessly and by that time rank is so high that you go down with only a few hits. ...good thing I created a save state right at the beginning for practice.

This version makes the Genesis Undeadline look like a cakewalk.

Damocles - Normal - X68000 - 828,000 - On - ALL (Cemetary, Rock, Dungeon, Cavern, Mucas, Mold, Ruins, Forest, Fortress)

Hah!

I suppose drilling the Fortress level for two days paid off. This was nowhere near a perfect run, as I lost a life in both Mucas and Forest. Both of those were just me not paying attention and getting careless. As such, there went 200,000 points I would have recieved for those extra lives. I also got really lucky in Fortress since the random item box gave me the full weapon powerup on the first try. I could have done the level without it, but it made things much easier.

Drain's boss owned me... It spills out enemies when damaged, annoying.

Well hell, since someone else is playing I might as well post this...

Damocles - Easy - X68000 - 1,018,080 - ALL (Cemetary, Rock, Dungeon, Cavern, Mucas, Mold, Ruins, Forest, Fortress)

Well...the game lets you keep you weapons between levels, so after Normal this is...well...Easy. Crazy next, methinks. No between-level healing or weapons? Damn...

Mission Undead Line is over.

Leandro - Normal - Mega Drive - 2,433,000 - On - ALL (Ruins, Drain, Forest, Cave, Rock, Cemetery, Castle)

I lost a bunch of lives on Drain and Cave. The rest went smoothly... Thank God.

Finally beat it! I think I actually finished the last level without any options. It was like my dodging skillz had reached a magical level somehow ^^.

Sega Mega Drive version, normal:

2,110,900 / Zebbe / On / (ALL) Cave, Ruins, Rock, Forest, Drain, Cemetary, Castle

My weapons were:

Cave: Spread
Ruins: Flame (option on boss)
Rock: Spread
Forest: Spread
Drain: Crescent
Cemetary: Crescent
Castle: Crescent

I put two on DX and one on AG with all my fairies.

Good job! See, it wasn't all that hard once you got the patterns down, now was it? That makes 4 ALLs in a game that, up until even a year ago, seemed untouchable.
