Pheonix questions (first ever shmup boss)

Post by Szczepaniak »

Hi all

New user here, first topic too. I did a search, but saw no topics dedicated to Pheonix.

I'm quite the fan, but I've been wondering...

Wasn't it the first shmup to ever feature a boss? I'm sure read somewhere that it set some kind of precedent regarding something, but I'm not sure.

So... What was Pheonix famous for? The boss, right?

Wait - you write for Retro Gamer, don't you? Responsible for the articles about gaming in foreign countries, am I right?

Anyway, yes some would say Phoenix did pioneer bosses - although I'm not sure that particular phase of the game could be considered like that by modern standards.

The game however has a cult status regardless of that.

edit= discussed also here:

Well, welcome on the forums - last time we got a professional writer among us it... didn't really work out.

btw, at least in Japan, I think the first boss is considered to be Andor Genesis, the Xevious big ship.

Thanks for the welcome. :)

Also, does anyone know what the classical music is which plays during the game (at the start and after defeating The Mothership)?
