If you really think we ought to have an Ibara review and should really have reviews of Gradius V, ESPGaluda and DDP:DOJ, then why don't you volunteer and write them!? :?

Just do a search and find whatever major threads the game has and just read people's impressions for now, I guess.

Why search for reasons, when almost everyone is gonna tell you that every single one of those 3 games is a must for a shmup fan (if only to try them once and see if it's your style).

Buy DOJ before the other two though! (my opinion)

Not to offend those that have written them, but most forum based reviews suck. There are no pretty pictures and such that normally would accompany them. Need pictures.

If you say this you insult all the volunteers who wrote them, including me.
In my opinion the review section is a nice addition, writing a game about a game you like (or love) is fun - not every user here has the routine in writing well-balanced and refined. Sitting down for half an hour (or more) to add something to the section should be respected. While I agree that none of the reviews has pictures, those pictures can be found elsewhere, either the xenocide files or google them. Remember that it is a fan thing; saying that the reviews suck because they have no "pretty pictures" is a bit weak.

Out of curiosity, why hasn't the xenocide reviews section been updated?
I kinda see his point about some shooters that you would think be in there.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I think that it would be a good idea for other folks to be able to post in the actual review thread itself, as to help make suggestions on how to make the review itself better over time. Feedback is nice.

Malc has a life, so the site hasn't seen a proper update for over a year.

OIC...... would he allow someone else do the work and then he just give it a green or red light after viewing it?

When he came to the board half a year ago I asked him that same question; he did not reply. So the answer seems to be "no".

And by the way, there haven't been any real updates (new reviews etc.) in almost 3 years.

There is an up-to-date shmup list here:

My PS2 copy of DOJ arrived from Play-Asia this morning, and, considering how notorious it is, I'm surprised how accessable I'm finding it. I got to stage 3 on my first attempt and topped the default high score table on my fifth. Sure my scores aren't up to the lowest entry on the forum's table yet, but the game doesn't seem nearly as quick to lay the smackdown on a new player compared to Ibara. I've been giving Ibara (PS2 arcade, not arrange) moderate to heavy play time for two months and Midi still kicks my butt half the time. Hell, I've only got up to Kasumi once.

So what is it about DOJ that makes people call it a bastard? Is it the difficulty of maintaining a perfect chain? Rank? Just the later levels?

Chaining well is a very precise and annoying art in the game, and with hyper use, the difficulty jumps drastically by stage 3.

Never tried for a 1cc by just ploughing through the game however. Could be a fun way to play it.

Probably a mix of all three. In nearly all Cave games the difficulty makes a huge and sudden leap after stage 3.

DOJ gets angry when it thinks you think you're better than it.

The hit box and play control keep me from getting too frustrated with it. Haven't played too much of it lately due to the contest and Disgaea... enough to keep me from forgetting too much, but so far not enough to get onto my own scoreboard.

Well to get higher chains you need to hold on to hypers and if you die with a hypers in stock, you lose 'em. A death with hypers pretty much tanks a scoring run. Not to mention that for bigger chains you need more hypers in stock, and the more hypers you use, the more the rank spikes. Playing for score can be real, real frustrating.
Feedback will set you free.
