10 shooting games on the 2006 Tokyo Game Show list
http://tgs.cesa.or.jp/
Click on the 2006/08/02 link. They say 10 shooting games will be shown at this year's 2006 Tokyo Game Show (Sept 22-24), though no actual titles are mentioned. Let's hope one of these is a port of Espgaluda II!! Arcade games are not exhibited at this show, so it's all console and PC stuff.
An updated announcement with more concrete titles will be made on September 12th on that website.

If they say STG, then they do mean just shmups and occasionally arcade flight sims.BulletMagnet wrote:When they say "shooting games," do they specifically mean "shmups," or does this go into the realm of rail shooters, FPS's, etc.? In any case, of course, I'm with the rest in hoping for ports of some recent arcade stuff...

Right, 'shooting' in Japanese generally refers to shmups. Japan developers don't really make FPSers very much. Rail shooters usually aren't included in this either, but I guess they might be. Go to a game shop in Japan and look at their 'shooting' section, it's mainly shmups.
Anyway 10 isn't a very big number if we think 2-3 PS2 ports, and the rest are handheld crap, or PC shmups.

Trust me, I wish I could.twe wrote:Go to a game shop in Japan and look at their 'shooting' section, it's mainly shmups.
Still, 2 or 3 new PS2 ports (maybe other systems, too?) wouldn't be bad at all (assuming they'd be handled decently, anyways).Anyway 10 isn't a very big number if we think 2-3 PS2 ports, and the rest are handheld crap, or PC shmups.

"Shooting Game" = any game where the man objective is shooting something else, regardless of 2D/3D, direction moving, POV, etc. Quake is just as much a shooting game as Dodonpachi, as is Gain Ground or Senjou no Okami. To really know they're the good kind of shooting game, look for "yoko/tate scroll shooting".

The new, final list of titles and exhibitors at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show was just released. No Espgaluda II port, and no Shiki III PS2 port. Actually, there's pretty much nothing. All of the 'shooting' games are for PC, mobile, or PDA.

Super Hentai Penis Blasters 16 was the best game I've ever played. I hope they stay true to their roots in the new version and don't add anything too crazy like they did in Super Hentai Penis Blasters 12
Meh, I thought they perfected the scoring system in SHPB10. After adding the tea-bagging system I just felt it took too much away from the pure shooting aspects of the earlier entries in the series.

Well, the list cites 23 Shooting Games at the top, but looking through the genre listings I could only find 16 games defined as Shooting.twe wrote:The new, final list of titles and exhibitors at the 2006 Tokyo Game Show was just released. Is it possible that the list is incomplete?

But you have to admit the skeet-shot really changed the multiplayer dynamic in SHPB13!jp wrote:ASK wrote:Yes!!angrycoder wrote:Super Hentai Penis Blasters 17![]()

Right, I noticed that too. The problem is none of the shmup companies (Taito, Alpha System, or even Arika) are even going to be at the show.Kiken wrote: Well, the list cites 23 Shooting Games at the top, but looking through the genre listings I could only find 16 games defined as Shooting.

I'd expect the rest of the 'shooting' game stuff is more PC/mobile stuff.

Which is funny, because games like Half-Life or Unreal Tournament would go under "action shooting" (run-and-gun) but Battlefield 2 and MoH would go into "STG".

It did. Too bad they took it out in SHPB14. I still don't know why they did that.

I've heard that Konami has since retracted that statement in one way or another that a Gradius 6 is planned.... As much as I hate to say it. I feel robbed....
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
