I think Sven is on to something. I will probably buy this dvd, but I am not too enthusiastic about it. Raiden III lacks the "wow factor" that other games like ketsui or mushihime sama have. There are lots of players competing for the highest score in R3 and they are all scoring very close to each other. R3 is pretty straightforward as a game and there aren't too many tricks for players to showcase their skills.
I enjoy playing R3 and think its a fun game, its just not a game I would want to see a top player play.

Dave_K: The Raiden III Special DVD included with first-editions of the Onslaught Raiden Fighters insanity collection only shows stages 1-3 and was released several months before the game hit arcades.
Also, Stage 3 in the DVD became Stage 4 in the finished game :)
DVD score breakdown:
Stage 1 (including bonus): 1216200
Stage 2 (including bonus): 2733920
Stage 3 (including bonus): 4307140

Sad but, oh so true...
But I guess we should keep in mind that this is Moss, working under the Seibu License. At least I hope there wasn't very many Seibu people working on it?

Yeah.. but the soundtrack CD seems decent enough:GaijinPunch wrote:Also lacks other things like "quality" and "good graphics".Raiden III lacks the "wow factor" that other games like ketsui or mushihime sama have.
A recording done from the Master Data
A recording done from the Type-X output
A series of remixes (one of the musicians featured is WASi303)
Stage 1 from the LokeTest version of Raiden IV
And I like that the bonus video of the Double Play actually films the entire player sitting infront of the cab.
