Ketsui PCB "Battery Back-up" question...
On most Ketsui PCBs, it seems that the back-up battery hasn't been connected at all, hence the reason why there's no high score saving when powering down for the night.
On the old Shmups.com forum, a fellow shmupper mentioned that he had a Ketsui PCB that DID indeed save his high scores even after turning it off for the day.
I wonder what his Ketsui PCB back-up battery soldering connection points looked liked?
And what is the built-in switch used for on a Ketsui PCB anyways?

Ketsui is worth paying for believe me. If you want compeling yet incrediblly punishing gameplay then Ketsui is your game. Sure it slaps you untill your face hurts but it also tells you that you can do better and you eventually do.
Because it's newish (No mame or port) the bullet paterns are a surprise, yet people survive enough to put their high scores in.
Ketsui is HARD. Ketsui is CHAOS. Ketsui is probably the loudest, fastest, most mental shmup i've played in an age. Yet it has a compellingly simple and has a addictivly simple score mechanicic that positivly encourages the player to play better.
The fact that you have to write your own score is irrelevant (sp?). Yes the PCB does not save your score, but if youv'e made a score that truly counts then you should already have the pen and paper & digital camera on stand bye, just for the non believers.
I'm very drunk................forgive me!

if it is just a dead battery, wonder if this has anything to do with the crashing free play thing me and a few others have (for mine at least, i figured out that it crashes if i hit start during the demonstration).maybe it use to save hi score and all of them have died by now ,
anyone just try replacing the battery?
i will use a scene from the simpsons to reply to this:But seriously, I wanted to buy this, but now think its not worth paying current prices.
Milhouse: I've seen the Itchy and Scratchy Movie 13 times.
Nelson: I've seen it 17 times!
Bart: You must be getting pretty tired of that movie by now, huh?
Milhouse: Noone who saw the movie'd say that!
Nelson: Let's get him!
otherwise, none of my boards save high scores, not that i have a lot or anything, but its just something i expect out of arcade boards. (for reference: dangun, esprade, ketsui, gunbarich, gunbird 2). when i was at school, the fact that strikers 1999 saves the top score was nice for competition. course then i went back recently and the top score is ridiculously out of my reach.
honestly id be sort of annoyed if my games saved the score list because constant play. my ketsui list would be 2 high 60 million scores and 3 high 50 million scores, with similar situations for any other games i have. sometimes my friends come over and play for score and that would become a little bit of a hassle. when i do get new highs i either just write it down or take a picture, either way it ends up on my computer in a text file of highs. since it doesnt happen all the time or anything, its not that big of a hassle.
its one of my most favorite scoring mechanisms, mainly cause you dont have to worry too much about carrying a chain or keeping some meter up all the time. wouldnt consider it the fastest though. i plugged dangun feveron back in today (for the first time in months), and uo-poko is as fast as ever. sure its a secret ship, but its how i play the game. ketsui is still more chaotic for 2 reasons though, patterns and wobblevision. the patterns arent impossible or anything, just really different (progear is up there too with the funky patterns). and wobblevision is pretty standard for cave stuff i think, but dangun doesnt have it. playing ketsui 2 player is pretty insane because the wobble and speed of the game, not really noticeable in 1 player though.Ketsui is HARD. Ketsui is CHAOS. Ketsui is probably the loudest, fastest, most mental shmup i've played in an age. referring to the side to side movement. the play area is wider than the screen, so as you move to the left/right, the whole play field shifts, compared to dangun or psikyo games, which are all on a fixed field which is the same width as the screen, and dont move side to side. you dont really notice it 1 player unless youre consciously looking for it, but in 2 player it gets crazy cause it shifts around for each player. like for some patterns i either stay still or move just a little, while my friend is just moving like crazy, pretty much the whole screen is moving around and makes it harder for me to dodge because of that. visually my ship would be moving around on screen because the play field shifting, but im not touching the controls at all. relative to the actual objects in game, everything is still the same, its just sort of like the game 'camera' is moving around.
