i used to play this game all the time at a local drugstore. i havent seen this cab in at least 15 years (probably even longer). its been so long i had forgotten the name of it until it just kind of popped into my head recently.

this game is SUPER old school, one fire button and all. the little drum roll and cymbal splash at the game start are hilarious.

i played it for about 10 minutes today and had a good time. seems pretty playable for something so damn archaic. check it out if you can still get into the oldies.

For Super Laydock,

You've never played Mega Zone? -- Where the hell have you been then? ^_~

Just j/k'ing with ya, dude... ^_~

Sure, I've played the arcade upright of Mega Zone back in the late 1980's...was a Tate'd oriented arcade shmup back in the day when it was first released in the USA.

It just so happens that if one can get ahold of a Gamebox PCB that has the "104-in-1" vertical screen oriented set of classic arcade games included, Mega Zone is in there & available for your retro arcade shmup playing pleasure. Brings back memories of what it was like to play the full-sized arcade uprights back in the 1980's. ^_~

Looks fun; I wonder why it didn't make into any of Konami's Classic collections?

For dave4shmups,

Perhaps, Konami thought that it (Mega Zone) wasn't worth including in their arcade game retro collection? It's a part of arcade gaming history and deserves a proper place there, don't you think so? ^_~

IIRC, Konami may have licensed Mega Zone from Kosuka rather than it being truly their own game. Still, they could've got it in a collection like Midway did with Burger Time and Moon Patrol.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

hehe, I remember this game... this was one of those oddball games you'd see only in weird places. I ran into this game in Corpus Christi, in a resort game room, along with the game Eyes, another oddball. Also my dentist at the time had this game in his lobby, while in the back he had cocktail Astro Fighter, which was cool to have while you waited to get your teeth cleaned.

its really no worse than some of those ancient Capcom shmups that have been put out.
