If, like me, you button-mash as you die, your high score will be attributed to "CAP."
Sometimes I catch myself after inputing the first "A", but I don't know how to backspace, so for those games I just use different initials that start with "A."
There is no excuse. That's just poor design. I know it's to let me input a high score even if I continue, but I just don't like to do that. I really only credit feed if I had a terrible run that doesn't result in a high score.
I really love Cave's initial input grid; I could probably input my name in my sleep.
Just so this isn't a totally pointless thread, does anyone else have similar pet peeves that aren't directly related to gameplay?
(P.S. I don't really think they suck, it's just a frustrating flaw in an otherwise excellent series of games.)
Why takumi/capcom shooters suck.

While we're on the topic of inital entry pet peeves... Mine are games that, when it comes time to input your initals, offer not only the roman alphabet, but also the entire Greek and Cyrillic alphabets, the Wingdings font, hiragana, katakana, kanji, runes, Egyptian hierogylphs, traffic signs...
Thus ensuring whenever I want a "Z", it will take a year and a half to get there no matter which direction I scroll.
