Opera (browser) shmup widget!!

Some of you may already know about this but I thought this would be neat to share with all of you...

It's called Galaxy Fighter and is extremely fun.. for a widget anyway. You get to fight a HUGE boss every 4 level. You'll need to download the latest version of Opera to download and play this widget though.

The same widget coder also has a cool SimAquarium game where you manage and run your own fish tank and you make money, etc.

Extremely cool, IMO.

Opera is completely free.

I highly recommend it if you're sick of Firefox.

I'll list my reasons.
I got sick of firefox because:

- I got tired of waiting at least 8 minutes for it to load up on my 500mhz computer. One time I double clicked it, made a ham sandwhich and had two complete bites before it loaded up. I can hardly recommend it to anyone anymore because IE users hate how long it takes to load up.

- With all my extensions installed, memory seemed to leak (300mb and up). The overall performance and speed of the browser as far as opening tabs, etc. was just sluggish and not as fast. (Even on my P4 2.6ghz.)

- My favorite theme (Ifox or whatever) would bug out forcing me to use the default theme.

- Friends that I had switched to firefox in the past went back to IE because of that bug with certain video cards that cause it to really lag up when loading a lot of images. Overall performance was disappointing.

Why do I recommend Opera?
Very easy! I'll list!!

- A lot of extensions that you have to install on FF already come included with Opera:

- Mouse Gestures!
- Integrated Download Manager (where you can actually pause and resume downoads)!
- Bittorrent client!
- Close button on each tab!
- Passed the ACID2 test.
- Performance is very impressive, loads up very fast even on a pre-500mhz.

- Integrated email, news, RSS, IRC clients.
- Opera also doesn't use a lot of ram.
- It can be installed on a bare Windows 95 system and up. (works with Mac OSX, Windows, LInux).
- New tab button built on UI.
- Don't have to restart each time you install a theme.
- Bookmark browsing isn't setup like IE and is much faster.

Another reason? Opera has ZERO security flaws while FF has like what 7 unpatched flaws?

2 other great features of Opera that you missed:

1.) Searches can be done from the sddress bar. "g turtle" will search for turtles on ebay, "e Ikaruga Dreamcast" will search for Ikaragu for Dreamcast on ebay. No need for a seperate search window, but it does have one if you prefer.
2.) If a webpage loads a new window (popup) it will always open in a new tab.

I also fave Opera over Firefox. To what junkeR has already mentionned, I might add:
- close a tab, dig it from the bin, it's back with its history
- Opera sometimes crashes. Just reopen it, your session is back, with the history of each tab.

I was an Opera user for a long time before switching to FireFox because some sites would display incorrectly on Opera. After installing a bunch of extensions to make FireFox more like Opera, I eventually got sick of the memory leaks, semifrequent crashing, and general slowness associated with FireFox and switched back to Opera the other day.

FireFox stinks.

While I'd have to say that Firefox is definately a step up from MS Explorer, I've had plenty of Javascript issues with Firefox. (And I have made sure that Javacsript is on.) It does get annoying, especially with a site like www.gametrailers.com . Using Firefox, I cannot click on any of the videos on the front page of that site, and watch them. Granted, it's no huge deal to find them through the site's search function, but that's not necessary with Explorer.

Another thing I've noticed with Firefox is trouble copying and cutting and pasting. A lot of times I will copy a URL (if I even can) and try pasting it somewhere else, and it just won't paste.

Another vote for Opera. I've been using it for like 5 or 6 years now, I am not dissapointed.

I tried Firefox too, but Opera indeed is much better.

That's not a memory leak. You can change the amount of RAM used to cache websites. Read this:

I've downloaded and installed Opera, and it blow Firefox away. And for some reason, if I use FireFox, America Online comes up (I'm using my Dad's POS laptop and when AOL comes up, everything slows down as AOL hogs all the memory while it's loading.) Opera doesn't do that however.

It does randomly crash sometimes though, usally when I'm looking at ytmnds. But it saves your session, so it's a minor hassle.

(That session-saving thing is a mixed blessing. While it's nice to start where you left off, what if someone else uses the computer, launches Opera, and the last sites you visited were porno sites?)
