CPS2 Progear No Arashi PCB Kit - How much $$$ for one?
Since Progear No Arashi (and it's USA version under the name of "Progear") is regarded as the very last Capcom produced CPS2-powered game to be released, what is the going price for such a complete PCB Kit (meaning comes with CPS2 boards 'A' & 'B' + original instruction manual, original instruction strip & all related original arcade paperworks)?
It has been known that the original Japanese Bios version of Progear No Arashi outputs better sound than it's latter released USA Bios version counterpart. ^_~
And would the overall resale value be less if original Capcom CPS2 factory box was not included in this particular kit?
And how much would a Progear kit be worth if original CPS2 factory box was included as well?
Thank you for your time and helpful advice, fellow shmuppers...

CPS2 boxes are probably the easisest arcade boxes to find (so I hear) but they still don't grow on trees. I've never seen a full kit (w/ box). To get everything listed will probably run a minimum of $250, maybe $300. The board show up semi-regularly on Yahoo Japan (there's at least one up now) but remember that shipping on a B-board alone will be like $50.
The US version is apparently really rare, so will cost quite a bit more.

The quality of sound is exactly the same. The difference is the sound effects are edited for US region (minus some of the voices).PC Engine Fan X! wrote: It has been known that the original Japanese Bios version of Progear No Arashi outputs better sound than it's latter released USA Bios version counterpart. ^_~

i don't know how perfectly I can answer your q's but here's my personal experiences over a few shmup years in the land of reality:
Sold complete US "B" kit for $1200
Sold bare JP "B" Board for $300 (these typically run in the $200-300 range)
As far as CPS2 boxes, I would say that having the original CPS2 box should significantly upgrade the value (and I say should because people should know it's worth more). The reason I say that is because the CPS2 boxes are proprietary, just as the Taito F3 boxes. They each have a label specific to the game that is contained in them. Sure, it'd be neat to have a CPS2 box for your Progear, but to have the box is the juice (which I have yet to see anywhere). I have CPS2 boxes for my Rockman 2: The Power Fighters and Marvel vs. Capcom, but they are not the proprietary ones. I do have a factory box for my Megaman 2: The Power Fighters "B" kit, which I purchased new, along with the Progear US "B" kit, I sold.
As far as complete art for the JP ver., if you've followed much of the Cave collecting threads in the BuySellTrade forum, you well know that the story flyer is a bear to get ahold of. Not impossible, as I've probably come across 3 of them on YAJ, but not often and not cheap.

FWIW I got my green Progear A&B set for about $450 from a dealer in the UK back in fall 04. I didn't get any factory box with mine but I did get a copy of the operator's manual.
I'm really glad I was able to have it Phoenixed several months back. Worth the price and effort both to buy it and have it resurrected later as it's a great game and very nice collector item for any shmup/arcade fan. I can't wait to get a nice cab to put it in later this year.
edit: Are there decent scans anywhere of the story flyer (assuming it has JJ art in it)?

There are links to high-res scans of the manga found in the OST on the last page.

What the heck is it with the western market over-valuing arcade PCBs all the bloody time? People aren't afraid of buying from overseas any more. This isn't 1980. We have the internet, credit cards and PayPal now.

Awesome, thanks. I like the character bios and story supplements. It's also interesting reading Inoue and IDK's comments on the challenge of getting manic elements to work in a horizontal shooter.GaijinPunch wrote:WeeeDylan1CC wrote:edit: Are there decent scans anywhere of the story flyer (assuming it has JJ art in it)?

Not to mention that they had tried DDP on a hori plane and wanted to make a Batsugun sequel with an alternating gunner/ship system which eventually led to Progear's female/male pod/plane set up. Very enlightening interview.
edit:
According to IKD, the girl/popularity meter can change the ending. Anyone have any experience with this (let alone know how to work the meter)?

Link. That's about all the printed Cave stuff there is, I'm pretty sure.
I can only get to stage 5 on Progear.

There are rumoured to be only 30 kits of USA progear in existance.
If that is the case, its value will be higher for that reason alone. Its likely only a few kits were split.
I believe progear green boards were made in the thousands.

You know, all I ever hear from big companies are threats about how if you steal software you'll get your arse kicked for it, and yet I as a consumer run the risk of buying bootleg software from known sellers on a daily basis without even realising it.
It would be really nice if these anti-piracy folks actually hit the people doing the real crime, and stopped threatening the average joe sixpack consumer.

Whats up everyone.
Ok I wanted to clarify a few things about Progear:
Cosmicco sells bootleg Progear B boards, not Excellentcom. If you look at Cosmicco's price list, you'll notice ** next to the game (same with Excellentcom). The ** indicates its a bootleg. Cosmicco also has Hyper SF2 Anniversary bootlegs for sale, the other known CPS2 boot. A legit Progear will have daughter PCB's on the inside of the cartridge with CPS3 memory simms instead of Eprom chips. There are 2 program Eprom chips, however the graphics and sound are on simms.
The bootleg boards come in B boards and look exactly like the legit one from the outside. On the inside, it is all eproms on a modified legit CPS2 board. If your progear doesn't have memory simms, its a fake.
As for the price, I got mine for $300 shipped for Green A+B (I got hooked the f*ck up). I've seen them sell for between $300 and $450 for B board only (Green). The US one, forget about it, they're SUPER rare, expect to pay $600+. From what I hear, Capcom only made Blue Progears for arcade ops that pre-ordered them.
As for the sound in the green version and blue version, there is speach as you pick your characters and when you complete levels. That speach (japanese speach) is censored in the blue release. It plays exactly the same other than that.
OH yeah and CPS2 boxes are IMPOSSIBLE to find. Either that or I just suck at tracking down kit boxes (I managed to find NeoGeo, CPS3, Atomiswave but never a CPS2
)

Oh thats very interesting, I must have missed that. I know right now they have legit ones in stock (according to Fannie). Was the progear boot on their "economy" cartridge list aka bootleg list?GaijinPunch wrote:Excellent DID in fact sell many of them though.Cosmicco sells bootleg Progear B boards, not Excellentcom.
