Easy:
incognoscente - 7,889,160 - Stage 19 - ON

First loop: 1 bomb, 2 deaths (both on final boss since I forgot its patterns as I went in)
So close to a 1-life, no bomb clear :(

Second loop 1-life until end of 17, really bad mistake. Cost me the stage and especially 18. Without the death on 17 (losing all power and speed), this might have been a 2-loop clear.

dudes, take that shit offa easy already!!!

nah, just trolling.

anyway, i think the worst thing when you die is that you loose all surplus bombs (and thus big End Of Stage Bonus - altho you can refill bombs in stage 8's first half). basically if you dont die/bomb, bonii go like this -

.......... no of bombs x multiplier > sub-total

stage 01 4x10.000= 40.000
stage 02 5x20.000=100.000 > 140K
stage 03 6x20.000=120.000 > 260K
stage 04 6x30.000=180.000 > 440K
stage 05 8x30.000=240.000 > 680K
stage 06 10x50.000=500.000 > 1180K
stage 07 10x50.000=500.000 > 1680K
stage 08 10x50.000=500.000 > 2180K
stage 09 10x50.000=500.000 > 2680K
stage 10 + 1000000 (end game bonus) > 4180K (+1M for blowing up stuff)

10 is maxbomb stock / good benchmark score for entering stage 7 is 1.8+M (IIRC)

...

BTW, if you're playin this on easy/normal/whatever, and you want to maximize your score, but you're not interested in distance (the game loops over 4ever, altho it spits out different "endings"), you can leech the final boss. Kill him ASAP, dont blow up the final turret (on the right), but rather suicide on it. you'll go back to the checkpoint (prior to the boss) - that bit is pretty easy - kill the boss again, suicide on the turret and repeat. every two or three deahts you'll earn an extend, so if you can go into stage 10 w/ 10+ lifes, (and then clear the lap w/ your last life) you can prolongue your game for 20+ minutes w/o having to worry about faster bullets :o (they only get fast on hard/3rd round anyway). this leeching can generate 1.5+M extra points.

anyway, enough rambling - just let me say that the best thing about this game (music aside) is that you may find yourself running into a bullet while dodging the green powerup . . .

Easy is default--I'd like to no miss, no bomb it some time. Playing on Normal will mean I won't get around to accomplishing that :)

I've played Normal and Hard and have cleared a loop of each. I hadn't played it seriously in ages though.

great game, one of my first Megadrive Toaplan titles, but I´ve been losing focus on it after getting other ones.

hey sam sorry dude i forgot i used auto fire so you can change that to on.

i'll have a normal hi score for you within a week. i'm hoping for a clear of the first loop in normal and i'm going to go for a 2 loop clear in easy mode with a better score. i died a few too many times in my best run, especially when i had about 7 bombs in stock. what a game. i only paid £1.99 for it too! :D

I found that if you turn auto fire OFF, your normal shoot delivar a bit more damage. :o

Moreover, you could have more control to the Green weapon. :o

That's a great deal, since Fire Shart is probaby one of the best shmups on Gen.

agreed on it being one of the best on the md. got to stage 8 on easy last night without dying but got screwed up and left on a dodgy check point that i had trouble recovering from so my score ended up pretty useless...

EASY
4196550
Stage-16
Auto-fire on

I still died on the first loop which was a shame as i thought i might have got a 1 life clear of the first loop. still i've managed to improve a lot on my old score. i think i may have a few runs on normal today.

and another

NORMAL
1858350
stage - 9
Autofire on

i was on track for a 1cc but died at my usual sticking point of the end of stage 8. for some reason i find resuming from the last check point on stage 8 to be almost impossible unless i manage to power up at least once, usually meaning a few deaths before i ditch the pea shooter. and then i die anyway :?

i died stright away on the 2nd loop. my biggest problem with fire shark is those kamikaze planes in groups of three. they're so fast on the 2nd loop!

EASY - 3,325,440 - Stage 11 - ON

Grrrrr... died on Stage 8 and didn't manage to recover, just dragged myself on using a lot of bombs.

Could have been a lot better if I had gotten the bonus for at least stage 8 and 9 as well, gotta try that again.

I guess it was the late 1980s when i played this game at the arcade. i looped this game 11 times (american jamma pcb version) at over 100million where the game stopped providing bombs at each stage, so by the time i got to the tricky stages, i had no chance...even with the extra lives. the sheer speed of the enemy bullets meant GIVE UP PERIOD! never played the more difficult (japanese version)

Hey, you never told me this! I just crashed it out on purpose after 5 hours at Ollie's arcade in Holloway Road. But typically YOU had to go on until the 'pass-out on your feet point'

By the way, you should relate your version of the Truxton 11 hour Snooker hall incident. Peebash and Dharmesh were there that day/night/morning
(Post it on the Truxton Hi-score thread though; http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... ht=truxton )

Peebash and Dharmesh. I used to write for a friend's fanzine back quite a few years ago and there was a chap who used to write to my friend called D Jamnadas who had a brother named P Jamnadas. They were both really into shmups and were casino regulars i think. I remember being impressed that one of them managed to 1LC SNES UN Squadron on gamer mode which is a pretty awesome achievement if it wasn't done by repeatedly doing the convoy level for bonus cash. Would they be the same fellows, and are they the chaps you usually refer to as ARC and ARM?

Well worked out mulletgeezer :!: :D
Yes that should be them, my old mates from Holloway Road. ARC & ARM. Both Pharmacists & excellent shoot'em up Players! They were at London Meet I & III, you left just before they arrived on Meet III.

sorry for the late reply :P

it was on Hard setting. PAL version doesn't have "normal", just easy or hard. i just played it on hard because that's the default :?

i'm gonna have to get this again man.... the music is just pure nostalgia - very first shooter i played at the tender age of 10...!

Well my score is rather pathetic compared to the rest, but a 8th score on the Genesis version would be nice. I somehow got on a roll when this game normally slaughters the living hell out of me (not to mention the fact this is the 4th time ever I've played this, and Toaplan shmups torment me, yet I still tend to love them nonetheless).

My pathetic score on easy (yes laugh at the puny score ):

Ed Oscuro - 409,310 Easy stage 5 no rapidfire

Was using this: Fire Shark (J) - Fusion32

Second full play ever (third time started; first try was in MAME, that crashed when the Mega Tech timed out or something)...not the prettiest game, but has some nice touches.

 @ the scene at the beginning of stage 2 (or was that 3?) when the other plane takes off with you
