STGT 2k6 Week #1: Blazing Star

I'm working on improving my score at the moment. Plenty to work on and improve. First time playing Blazing Star seriously for me, so a fresh challenge is good, although I would have preferred Sexy Paro. ^_-

As for a top five place... I'm not guaranteeing anything. Don't forget, there are 50+ players yet to post. I might not even be in the top 25 come the end of the week. ^o^

I'm not expecting anything from stragglers and I'll be surprised if more than a few hit 30m+. If anyone has a high score, well, you're stronger than me if you can resist posting it right away. It would also be quite demoralizing to the competition! Which can't be anything but a bonus.

I did a little better today. I tried all the ships and worked on chaining but I think that survival + collecting the blue things is still my best strategy, although I did manage to milk some points out of the level 3 boss.

I go back to Dino 246.i must learn to milk the Stage 4 Boss and beat Stage 6.18-20 million is my Goal for this week.

Heh, don't worry an updating scoretable makes the competition more interesting for everyone so I am satisfied to update so many new scores.

And according to the end of the week. Originally it was meant to end at sunday, the 27th at 23:59 (11:59pm) GMT. However on the thread there was a discussion that on this time it is still sunday afternoon in USA and therfore we could make a little later closing time. So, I suggested to close the scoretable on monday (28th) at 12:00 (12:00am) GMT. But no matter from where you are you have all the same deadline.

If you disagree with the new date, post that now or stay silenced forever.

Finally reached the 20 million...

Man, Stage 6 and esspecially the boss are really hard. I wonder if I can even manage to kill the boss in this week. Well I still have a lot to increase in the prior stages.

Man, this is not my week. First, I've been sick since last Friday with a sore throat and cold I can't shake. Second, this game hates me. I can't score for shit in it. Finally, when I do actually make a score worth posting (though still shit), after in putting my initials and waiting a bit, I reset the game to play another credit... only the game didn't save my score on the high score table... not to mention the fact that during that game my left ear started ringing and hasn't stopped since then... le fucking sigh.

As hoped, I was able to do better! The nice thing is, I still feel like I can improve. For the latter half of the 4th stage, and the entire 5th stage, I was pretty much just blazing to survive (instead of worrying about score). Now I know where I need to practice, but I think I'll cool down with some Spriggan first. That game seems so easy now!

Some of you may remember my anecdote from a few years ago, the local import shop had a NeoGeo cab with this game in it, and anybody who could beat the owner's high score got a free game of their choice. I think it was only like 17 millionish, with more than the normal default lives. Good for him that none of you guys live in Toledo. The cab isn't there anymore, never asked the guy why. I'm hoping it's because somebody beat his score and took the cab as a prize.
