er..advice appreciated, but naw, man. Nobody's losing sleep over logos on the internet. I didn't realize I was coming off as some sort of icycalm. :o :lol: But yeah, seriously, new rule, if I ever sound emo on the interweb, read it off as pestimistic sarcasm..and then tell me I'm sounding emo in the internet. I couldn't stand to think I was being known as that guy.

Good times all around. But thanks anyways. Conveying tone on the internet is damn near tedious, isn't it.

Tychom wrote me an interesting PM, I wanted to share his thoughts with you:
There was some talk earlier in the thread about a separate (unofficial) ranking for individiual players so that we can see how well we've performed against other people we know (and want to humiliate ;) ). I've just put together a python script that'll do such a thing so if people are interested I can post a table at the end of each round..

The main difference between this and the main table (posted by Edge just above) will be that individual scores will accumulate across the competition (rather than being swallowed and anonomized into the team score) and all submitted scores will be recorded rather than simply the top 3 per team with all others being discarded (hence the larger number of points available).

The main question I have regarding this would be the allocation of points for each player. So far I have the below table:

1st pos : 100pts
2nd pos : 92pts
3rd pos : 86pts
4th pos : 82pts
5th-8th : 3pt gaps (i.e. 79-70)
9th-18th : 2pt gaps (i.e. 68-50)
19th-67th: 1pt gaps (i.e. 49-1pt)

So the top players are rewarded with increasing score gaps over their nearest challengers with the tail closing in on each other.

Of course there are loads of different ways to allocate points and thats just one but I think it seems rather fair. An additional question will be what to do with those who dont participate one thing would be to allocate a straight 0 points to those people for the round, another would be to rank them all equally at the bottom of the chart. This in turn would mean a joint Nth place (e.g. around 50th) with an associated number of points (e.g. around 17) and its perhaps unfair to not participate yet still make up points.
Well, I just returned home and I am too tired to discuss this now in detail. But I wanted to implement something alike. And thanks for the suggestion, seems like a pretty solid system. Although sharing the points for those who didn't participate doesn't sound like such a good idea to me...

I'll post something about the individual scores tonight or tomorrow morning. :)

I'm definately edging towards 0 points for a round you don't participate in. Its how I'm currently outputting results, e.g. something like this:

nha i wanted to join the tournament ,even if i'm not too good ,but my computer just didn't want me to come on the forum anymore :/ .
i guess the inscription are closed now, anyway there isn't lot of free spot left in the teams.

Where in Batrider is the flaming red background? Or did you knock the ship out of its original background in Photoshop/etc and pasted it onto something else?
(I thought it was Great Mahou as stage2 has the red clouds.)

Can I be the first (I think) to suggest that we play for 2 weeks... I just came back from a weekend in a field and have a big project just land on me at work and need to go to Paris this weekend....

I will get some time in on the game but not much. Even if I had a full week something often comes up at work to scupper plans. Why not shorten the break to allow more play time and less break time? Its not like I will dent the scores anyway but maybe other people feel the same?

Also being away this weekend the idea of a little more time would suit me, perhaps 10 days playing, 4 days voting rather than a straight 7 - 7 split.

Am I right in saying that if I join a team and then suck hard, it wont be to the detriment of the team since only the top 3 scores count?

I'm quite awful you see, yet would love to at least give this a shot. It sounds like fun.

I have the WORST luck...so yesterday i finially got Blazing Star to run flawlessly in mame and before work i got in a few games. I figure God doesnt want me to play shmups this week because while i was at work i got poked in the eye by a freakin eletrical wire! I guess im lucky because i didnt loose my eye and i can still see out of it, but its swollen up now and doesnt want to stay open. So yea in order to make this compitition fair i think we should add 26 million to my score just for good measure :) Hopefully i will be able to play more later this week...because when i tried to last night i couldnt even beat my scores from the first time i ever picked up the game. Sorry team looser i thought we had a real shot at this one! (ok not really)
