Seattle area...Anyone?
Seattle area...Anyone?
Two questions:
Anyone around Seattle and want to meet up?
Are there any good arcades in the greater area?
Thanks!

I'm in the Seattle area, and I know I've seen in some other people's profiles there are more of us here somewhere...
I was thinking of starting a thread to try and collect the locations of shmup cabs in the Seattle area actually. I don't know where any are at the moment since the only one I know of on Queen Anne seems to be gone now. Time to start looking.

I like the idea of meeting up. I don't have a lot to offer, but I'd love to support a Seattle shmup meet.
About Shmup cabs, I haven't seen one in Seattle since the Northgate arcade closed, which was about 10 years ago. I know there is a shmup cab in some crappy casino down outside of Tacoma, but I don't remember where it is or what the game was. I think it was a Raiden game, maybe.

they tore most of that block down to make room for a shitty condo project... *edit, now it is a parking lot...
however their staff merged with staff from the croc closing and started a new venue, and the raiden 2 may have been moved there (haven't checked)..

Hah, sorry, I'm new but I know they have Raiden Fighters on one of the ferries from the Edmonds/Kingston run, but there are two ferries that run. I think it's the ferry called Spokane but I'm not sure.
Also, the Red Robbin next to the Alderwood Mall in Lynnwood has I think Raiden or Raiden 2 (?) I'm not sure which.
But those places might be far north for some. Just trying to let people know. Kind of silly that they'd put it on a 15 minute ferry... but I guess they don't assume people to spend that long on it.
I would come to a meet up, but gosh I suck so bad...

This sounds like a lot of fun. I'm in Olympia and have an xbox with a ton of shmups on it. Been reading all these threads along with another shmups site to track down every shmup that will play on an xbox via emu. Been a ton of fun so far and although I spend most of my time finding and organizing them it sure would be fun to play some of them with other fans of the genre.
Hit me up if you're ever heading down south!

I don't know if PaCrappa still lives around the area/posts here/comes by ever (this is the first time I've posted here in a year or so), but I've been to his place a few times for some arcade gaming including some shooters.
As for arcade stuff around Seattle, it's pretty dry. There was the arcade on the waterfront that had Raiden Fighters and Metal Slug, but last time I was down there I didn't see either of them. Then again, I was just walking through, so I may have just missed it. There was a bowling alley (Leilani Lanes) that had Raiden II, but I'm pretty sure it closed down, and the couple other arcades I knew about have all gone away in the last couple of years. Up in Bellingham there's a comic store that I think has a Strikers III cab. And there's a Raiden cocktail cab in a laundromat near my place, so...yeah, probably not too great of an option there.

Sorry to say that I don't have much to offer either. I have a Dreamcast with all the shooters, but that's it.
As far as arcades go, down near Tacoma Mall there is a shopping center called 'B & I' that has a huge amusement center with 50ish arcade cabs. The place is a complete dump, most games have messed up screens or don't work at all, but the do have Raiden, Raiden DX and a few 1942 games. Raiden DX works fine, but it doesn't take tokens, only quarters. They also 3 neo-geo machines with Metal Slug 1,2, and 4.
If anyone wants to plan a get-together, I'd gladly show up with my trusty dreamcast.

So yeah, there seems to be some people interested in doing to shmupmeet in Seattle. Is there anyone who is willing to hold a get together? I'm a loser and still live with my parents, so I can't. If anyone does I'll bring my Dreamcast and something good to drink, if you guys are ok with drinking.

PAX is next weekend, which provides a good time and place for a meet up.
Another option is, there are a handful of LAN centers in the area that have console rooms. This works out well because most of us in the area will have an apartment that we can't really fit many people in.
The arcades with more than a handful of machines that I know of in the area are
GameWorks, which is downtown.
There's an arcade in the family center (go-karts, mini-golf, batting cages) near the Southcenter mall.
The arcade down by the pier, by the pirate store / crab pot.
Illusionz in Issaquah closed down a while ago
I don't know what shmups they have off the top of my head.
