choose BS!!

Post by DEL »

Alright then I acquiesce, even though some players have advanced experience on Blazing Star, it has a lot of interesting stuff that I'd like to try out.

If you want to omit Peplos due to an infinite score problem, then ok.

It would be a miracle to 'catch-up' within 1 week on Blazing Star, but still I think its worth a go.

Its all BS

On second thoughts, having just read Gemant's explanation of the Peplos Last Form of Last Boss leeching method, I figure that you may as well leave Peplos in! = If anyone's good enough to get that far (RF2  ) then he 'deserves' to leech and Win!

Just gave Macross a whirl - I would've loved that. It's like a caravan game and you kids know how much I love caravan. ^_^ Oh well, at least I know it exists and I can play it regardless. Still, the competitive element would've been an additional level of fun.

Not that the poll is over yet, but the result seems pretty clear at the moment...
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

The results should have been private; people can start practising now (I can't as I am not gonna be at home though).

I agree!
Then again it may be impossible to omit the "view results" part when making a poll due to limitations in the software used for the forum. :?

Anyway tried to start a shift in ballance again by voting for Sexy Parodius (Gradius type games all the way for me if we choose a hori!). :D

Voted for sexy parodius.

Our team needs to avoid blazing star and I think parodius is the only game there with a chance of catching it.

Blazing Star, baby.

It was either that or Darius Gaiden, since I suck too much at Sexy Parodius. And in the end, I find Blazing Star a better game than Darius Gaiden. Not that I'm a master of Blazing Star either, but eh...

come on chaps, vote for sexy parodius!

i think SP would make for a much more level contest as there don't seem to be any masters of this game around (unlike BS or DG) but also the game has great potential for skill. also i notice in the Blazing Star high score thread there is some talk of emulation problems under MAME which effects the rapid fire? that's not good if it gives an advantage to owners of the MVS version.

Goddamn... :(

I hate Blazing Star.

I find Sexy Parodius the 2nd weakest game in the series, though I still enjoy it. (Gokujyou Parodius would be the better choice IMO :D)

Cotton, Darius Gaiden and Macross 2 would be excellent games IMO. If I had to choose my favourite one, it would be Cotton.

But I will vote for Sexy Parodius, just to see if we can get Blazing Star out of the top position....

And I agree with sven666, I would prefer R-Type Leo over any of the games in the poll

Oh well.... :)

Ok, so about all the Blazing Star controversy:

The rapid fire:
I read that too, it seems on Mame the rapid fire shot is somehow harder to activate. But this shouldn't be a problem but on Mame you can also use Mame's auto fire function. So Mame users won't have a problem with the rapid shot.

Leeching with Peplos:
I think we don't need to ban Peplos, since the infinite milking can be only pulled of during the final boss and is also pretty hard to pull of. I agree with DEL there, if someone is good enough to do that so be it.

And about Blazing Star and a possible new poll:
C'mon the same could be argued about 99.9% of all the shmups. There will always be people which are already very experienced. And have an advantage on a particular game. But seriously, on the Blazing Star highscore thread are not many of the members of this tournament. In this case I had to also cut Darius Gaiden from this list, as Icarus and some other folks have already decent highscores with an ALL.

The point I want to make is. No matter which game will be chosen. There will always be someone dissapointed. But the majority wanted this deccission and therefore it's only fair. You may not like Blazing Star, but all over the thread people are complaining about all games. That is just a matter of a personal opinion. Therefore I don't see any reason why I should start a new poll. If the game Blazing Star would be seriously broken, it would be something else.

Still if you don't agree with anything. Then feel encouraged to tell us your opinions, that the matter can be discussed. :)

Edge: Well said. i think all your points are pretty valid. also i think your choices of games were quite good on the whole, i guess it must be hard to find hori games with worthwhile scoring systems as most of the best ones were made in the days when good scoring systems were rare (e.g. the previously mentioned r-type leo, i found i could get close to a max score on this after just 3 days of hard playing, over a week we'd being seeing lots of very similar scores.) I might be guilty of bitching about BS a bit too much as i much prefer Sexy Parodius, but i still think SP would make for a much more interesting contest.[/b]

No problem at all. :)

And you know from all the games on the poll I like Blazing Star worst. :P
I am hot for Cotton, Macross or Sexy Parodius. So I am also hoping that Parodius catches up. ;)

BS!

Post by DEL »

Yep, I've come full circle on this. I've decided to play my MVS Blazing Star regardless of whether its chosen or not. (I sold my AES copy earlier this year, but made sure I picked up a £10 BS MVS cart to fill the gap). Now I need to get myself a supergun joystick with autofire.

Strat PMs will be sent to UK Team members if it IS chosen, don't worry  .

Ps. A big Thumbs Up to Edge for displaying excellent German Efficiency! Great Job so far :D !

It looks more and more like it will be Blazing Star and that will keep me from playing, as I only play console/handheld games and am not hardcore enough to get a neo-geo aes for the few shmups it has.

Oh well, I'm terribly busy right now anyway.

Probably USA central should pick up another player!

Oh yeah Edge, don't get me wrong, I think you picked some excellent games there. The fact I don't like Blazing Star doesn't harm it at all, as we can see, I am on minority here :)

Seeing Cotton surprised me, as sometimes I think only me and Bulletmagent likes the little witch here :)

Do you have MAME available? It plays fine on that.

Heh, too bad Cotton 2 or Boomerang's not a viable choice, now THOSE I'd love to see more people playing. :)

Well you still have 4 other players on your team, so if you are busy atm or don't want to bother with emulation you can just skip the game. That won't handicap your team in any way if you don't enter this game. That's what we created the teams for. Later on the tournament you may have more time and maybe games that are more interesting to you will be played. :)

Nope. I refuse to play games on my computer, which is where I work.

I think I'm one of the few who actually prefers the original Cotton; it's the only game in the series that I've held on to.

Sexy P +1, but I'd have rather seen one of the other Paro games there instead. (I can see why Edge chose it though  )

Hahah - that's what I was thinking. My current rom's colors are all corrupt.

I'm not the biggest fan of Blazing Star because I do not understand the scoring bonuses and such - but it's a good game. I'm hoping some sweet replays come out of this.

Problem is unless you have the Saturn version or arcade setup, emulation isn't an option for either game which is why I believe they weren't options.
I recently picked up Boomerang SS myself and that game isn't too easy to locate.

Try a different MAME version. I've found the ROM looks like shit on the latest version of MAME32, but works fine on an older version.

Voted for blazing star because it's the only game on the list that I own on arcade version.
