Been playing a bit of the training stage for fun lately, my score isn't too great on this one yet.
I'm not getting such a high % for enemies shot down, when I'm sure I've been shooting everything..

Training Mission - Normal Difficulty

If you're aiming to hit the loop for Training Mission (which leads into Novice), you should aim for a Training no-miss no-bomb score of at least 5mil. You only need 6 of the 7 Gold Pyramids for the 100%. The most difficult part though, is hitting 98-99% of all enemies. ^_-

A lot of enemies appear to the far sides of the screen, especially small boats in the latter stage of the game. If you want to maximise your kill ratio, use Spread all the way through the Training, and switch to Homing Missiles during the second half (after the Gold Pyramid activated after the silo formation on the island). Switch back to Straight Missiles for the boss. ^_-

I think the no bomb part sounds just too much to me :( getting the pyramids is hard enough, and I need to bomb sometimes on those.

Its not as hard as it sounds. There is always a safe way to get all of the main pyramids, it just requires practice. I think Rando's ST guide should have my data for Training Mission still, with the location of all the Golds and the best way to get them.

Thats what I've used to get as far as I am :D I'm lucky if I get 6 of the pyramids.. I think I need lots more practice to get any better at this mission.

I seem to be on poor form lately too, and I really want to change that.

Which ones are you having difficulty with?

I popped up a 100% bonuses Training run up on superplay a while back, if it can help you at all:

the 3rd, that one is just confusing me at the moment, not getting the timing right on it..

the 5th, shots coming out just before the silos appear seem to mess it up sometimes, either that or I just miss moving into the center properly,

the 6th and 7th ones too, the DX bonuses are pretty hard to get, but I'm having lots of problems with shooting the pyramids afterwards, it makes me bomb that part.

Okay.

- - - - - - - - - - -

The third one is the two large tanks if I recall. The trick is to destroy the one that appears on the left side first, and leave the right side one till last. The method here is to destroy the covering on the right side tank as soon as possible, so it fires its aimed line pattern at you, which is easy to dodge - just lead it around the screen. This also has the extra effect of correct timing for this section.

For the left side tank, weaken the cover with your shots until you can get safely across - preferably after the right side tank stops firing - and point blank it to quickly destroy it. You'll want to time it so that you are on top of it after it fires its aimed attack at you. Once done, you can take out the other tank at your leisure.

Don't forget to activate and destroy the line of silos that appear to the left-center of the screen.

--> http://ikaruga.co.uk/files/fw/st_raiden ... rd_icr.avi

- - - - - - - - - - -

For the fifth one, you must destroy the flying ship with the 'shotgun' spread pattern as quickly as possible, before the island with the silos appears. You will know when it appears, as it always comes in with the line of large boats.

Try to control your shots here, as a stray missile will destroy a silo.

After you destroy the aircraft, quickly pointblank the tank on the south side of the island. Move in a zig-zag motion towards it if you are 2P, as you have faster horizontal motion compared to the 1P side, and zig-zagging actually is faster (and safer) than going direct. Also, you only need to tap your fire button here to destroy it, so be quick.

Then, stick to the upper left side of the screen and pointblank the powerup carrier, and then use the outside part of your Spread to destroy the tank at the north end of the island.

Once done, edge as close as you can to the center silo, position yourself so you are not touching any of the outer silos, and move diagonally into the center of the silo formation. Stop on top of the center silo for a split second, then deactivate the other four, and destroy as normal.

The Gold will appear at the ruins a bit further up the stage.

--> http://ikaruga.co.uk/files/fw/st_raiden ... th_icr.avi

- - - - - - - - - - -

You don't necessarily need to hit the seventh Gold to get 100% - only six of seven is required - but you do need to get the sixth definitely. During the section with the pyramids in the woodland, all the tanks will appear to the left of the screen, while a large flyer will appear to the right just near the fourth target silo. The trick to this section is quickly sweeping over a target silo as you get close, then backing off and destroying tanks and aircraft - don't hover around in one place.

Once you get all four silos, destroy the tanks, aircraft and the powerup carrier on screen quickly and wait until you can see the patch of dirt that holds the sixth and seventh Gold. QUICKLY make your way to it and hover over it, but don't stay in one place too long - use quick sidesteps to dodge and lure bullets away from the gold, and cut back to point blank the silo until it is destroyed. Your Spread and Homing Missiles here should destroy anything that comes along, but be alert at all times.

Once done, continue on as usual to the boss.

Also, DO NOT pick up the powerups until you have destroyed the Gold. ^_-

--> http://ikaruga.co.uk/files/fw/st_raiden ... th_icr.avi

- - - - - - - - - - -

And practice, practice, practice! I have faith that you can do Training with no problems, once you get the timing down. ^_-

There's no PS2 version for Raiden DX.

There's also no RF Evolution, either. That got canned.

Thanks! that was quite a while ago now, I remember that I was lucky enough just to no bomb the training mission, though I know I'll pick the game back up sometime soon.

Training (Arcade):

CIT - 1'060'180 - P2

I noticed that the Training (Normal) scores have stages next to them. Is that mode longer than on arcade difficulty or something?

Training can be looped into Novice Course, and then into Expert Course if you meet certain conditions each loop. IIRC, to loop Training, you need to have a 99% destruction rate, 100% bonuses (Gold Pyramids) found and destroyed, and No-Bomb No-Miss the run. You can loop Training Course no matter which difficulty you're on.

Interesting. I'm just starting with this, so I still have a lot of questions. Does the whole game just loop once or is it infinite?

I think Training loops all three Courses then ends after stage9 of Expert Course. I've never looped Novice or Expert yet, but I'm assuming they follow the endless looping of previous Raidens.

This game is really aggravating. I died twice in a row with full bomb stock. I hate how the power-ups all cycle differently after you've died, so you usually die again right away, by trying to not get stuck with a level 1 toothpaste laser. :evil:

:o You gotta be kidding me. if i had a decent memory card or digi-cam, id show you how the game is done on training mode (ARCADE4) where the enemy bullets are speeded up 4 times (same difficulty was 4 loops). gotta go this local internet cafe is closing up shop. bloody part timers.

My new score:

TRAINING (Arcade Difficulty)

CIT - 1,962,570 - 1-0 - 2P

And please correct the table:

PlasmaBlooD's above score belongs under NOVICE, not training.

:wink:
