Ketsui price
Hello,
What is a fair price for a Ketsui PCB? Are they easy to buy new or used?
Cheers,
Matt

You don't need the kit, the PCB is JAMMA, and it's not rare, just expensive. If you offer in the region of $700 give or take in the trading section, you'll probably get offered one within a few days.

if you look at older sales threads for this game you'll see the going rate is (or was) around $500 - $550, but i found nobody wishing to sell this one to me when i enquired recently and noticed others in the same position, so i edited my WTB thread offering $625 and had 3 interested sellers PM me within 2 hours!
assuming you already like cave games i think you'll find this game to be well worth the money - it doesn't have the most interesting scoring system ever but it's extraordinarily intense and will keep you playing for a long time, also it should hold it's value well so if you don't like it you should be able to sell it without making a loss.

Thanks to everyone for your input. I'm encouraged by your comments about the game. Having not seen it they are very helpful. I do really like Cave games but the closest I've come to the real thing is DoDonpachi on MAME and DoDonpachi DOJ on PS2 which I found too difficult to complete. I'm going to shop around for a reasonable price on the PCB now.
Cheers,
Matt

Ketsui is simply awesome, my favourite Cave game and I like most of them a lot!
I've only had the priviledge to play for two sessions in an arcade in London so I didn't get very far into it. Difficulty seemed to be ok up to about level three when it got a bit mental as all cave games do
If I could afford it I would buy it without thinking twice, no matter how much it was.
Cheers

Interesting, I'm curious to see how much you'll pay for this game. I had a very hard time finding one for less than $700. Coinop charges $760 for their one copy and excellentcom is sold out. I also haven't seen one FS on the forums in a couple months so I don't see how people can think this game isn't rare (as well as expensive).if you look at older sales threads for this game you'll see the going rate is (or was) around $500 - $550, but i found nobody wishing to sell this one to me when i enquired recently and noticed others in the same position, so i edited my WTB thread offering $625 and had 3 interested sellers PM me within 2 hours!
Of course I should say if you haven't played it you should know it's truly great. Try downloading the superplay video of it so you can see it in action.

it isn't rare; it's just that demand is exceeding supply of this game. i bought my copy from sven about a month ago, and i think he also recently sold one to another swedish member who's name escapes me. sven has a ketsui tree in his garden

A good reason for price jumps is threads like this. People start seeing what other people believe it's worth and it begins to get inflated as they expect to get that price. The trend continues to snowball until some crap game (not referring to Ketsui, just speaking in general) is suddenly selling for hundreds more than it was just months earlier, for no real reason

True story. I bought Ketsui (full kit + poster) a year after its release for cheaper than what is going now (and I think VENOM sold his for $200 which was the lowest ever). At the time, no one gave a shit about the game, and the best sorce of information was Brandon's fucking horrible "preview".
Good. Bad. I'm the guy with the gun.

I can see that talking about a game makes people want it more but the price of this game has been on the rise for over 12 months since its lowest point and I have not seen so many of these threads.
Its the same across most Cave boards, people are getting into Cave and buying all the boards, people seem to start with unrported unemulated and Ketsui is in both categories (we have seen Dangun and Esprade rise a lot and a little too).

Well, not speaking this thread in general but it's obvious that people will base their asking price for 'collectables' and other such items not available anymore from the manufacturer, on current 'trends' in the market. So people may do research on this forum, or on any other arcade game forum, browse finished listings on eBay, etc, to get an idea of the price they should be expecting to receive for it.mulletgeezer wrote:it's an interesting theory, but do you have evidence? i suspect that this kind of thread is an effect of such a rise more than it is a cause of it, and i doubt the shmups forum has too much effect on the global ketsui market. of course i have no evidence for this either
The worth of things like this are generally figures pulled out of your ass. They have less to do with the product itself and more to do with what the person is willing to part with the item for, due to their packrat nature or what have you. This starts to inflate the price, especially when there is a lull in the availability of an item. All it may take is someone with a little too much cash to throw around to give in to an extortionate price, and that sets the precedent for other sales.

Yeah, I bought it for $230 from cosmic and it seemed nobody was interested in the game. During my sell off it went for ~280, a couple months later people are paying double thatValgar wrote:True story. It's a great game, Cave's best IMO, but the prices are ridiculous.
Fascination...

I still kick myself for not buying it from you when I had the chance.Venom wrote:Yeah, I bought it for $230 from cosmic and it seemed nobody was interested in the game. yeah well if you go back long enough you could buy just about anything for any price.. those times are past and gone so why mope about it, just accept it.
if you cant accept that ketsui will run you an excess of $600 then you better come to terms with that you'll never own/play it too..
i have a bunch of videogame magazines from 96-97 and in the ads there i dont think a single NEOGEO AES game costs over $20, sure i wish i had bought some back then but it doesnt make me want to slate the people who buy them for $$$ these days, each to his own, why is that so hard to accept?

I bought mine from Big about a year and a half go, for I believe $525. The price has risen since then, but I am not sure by how much. I was actually tempted to part with mine since prices seem to be rocketing.
But, and the reason I kept it, is because the game is simply great. In my view, the prices are high because when people play it, they want to keep it. The $600-700 I could get for it would be gone in hours, but the game is there for years.

He definitely is...he wouldn't even consider trading it to meGlad you're enjoying my old board
I think it's funny to see all the people here saying Cave prices are inflated and these threads cause it and it's a phase, etc etc.
The simple truth is more people are finding out how great these games are and they are never going back down in price. At least not for a very very long time...and again, I had to hunt my ass down to find a Ketsui for under $700. I'm not talking about a couple months ago either, this was over the past couple weeks.

Anything is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.a game is only worth what a person is willing to pay for it.
There's only a 33% chance of that. I sold two to Big a couple of months before he sold that one.Glad you're enjoying my old board
