Better get a time machine then, so you can go into the future and find out what will be selected. ^_-
Let me know if you find out. ^_-

surely the greek alphabet has 24 letters? have you reached the Infinity stage? The game gets hard after 12 stages or so and i've never seen anyone get far past that. Then again being from the midlands i only know about 2 people who've ever played this game, including me.
Only 2 players in London reached 'Infinity Stage' on Starforce. My friend KAC was one of them, he's 2 years older than me so he nailed this one. He states 26 stages, but I suppose its the 25th (judging from your info).
He scored 6mil+. I've written this before, but Starforce's Infinity Stage goes on forever until you lose your last life.

Back On Topic:- I agree that the game selection should be as accessible as possible.
Perhaps this Tournament should have a dual-purpose? ie. Not only sorting out the Best Country, but also 'pushing' certain rare games further than we've ever pushed them before. - Starforce is an example; I'd like to see Infinity Stage

This is a competition to display a range of playing skills across a wide selection of old and new styles. If you think retro sucks just because you don't like it or care for it, all the better to put that prejudice aside and try and compete with it.
Yeah, I guess that should be the spirit. :)

Yeah, i already wrote that retro should perhaps be 1984-1992.
& don't worry, Starforce was just an example

Not retro enough! :P
Gaming got popular from 8-bit and then further.
8-bit was mainly pre '90s and should not be exluded.
It even was THE era when shmups started to rise to popularity.
8-bit shmups are a vital part in the history of shmups and SHOULD be part of this retro week! In fact I would prefer two retro weeks as it could mean both an 8-bit AND a 16-bit shmup for the compo.

I like most of my 8 and 16-bit games better (am better at them too) and would not want see them excluded. Some younger people (no being around in those days) might not like it, but I don't like the manics of recent years as much though if they are on the list of shmups I will play them of course.
So non 8/16-bit generation shmuppers in the contest should be man enough to compete at older shmups too as should I (and others) try and do well at the new-school ones. :)
It levels the field a bit more too.

I just want games picked with GOOD SCORING SYSTEMS. I think it would be great if someone can find an 8/16-bit shooter that has one!

Now someone demand a western developer week. :o

What's the problem with the "The one who kills more enemies make more points" score system ? Yeah, this usually means that whoever goes farther in the game will make the best score, but what's the problem with that ?

Unless it's never-ending the scores will be the same (or ~98% or whatever).

Win! ^_^

also, I don't mind on the games chosen, but I'd prefer it not to be all the main favourites.

If you want to use it in your sig, copy this code:

Code: Select all

I was going to use a GIANT ENEMY CRAB but couldn't fit it into a 200x50 image dimensions. ^_-

This didn't happen with the Oldschool competition a few years ago. Though the 1st game indeed had a very flawed score system, (Legendary Wings), the other 3 games had people with very different scores.

And frankly, it seems to me playing a game that doesn't have some insanely indepth and complicated scoring system is going to make you try that much harder to get every last point you can by taking chances and risking it all. I can understand not using games that have bosses where you can just pound their help ships and whatnot to gain points for seemingly an eternity (can't think of any such shmups offhand though), but there's no reason to exclude older games just because you can't scrape bullets or crank up some multiplier.

Hate to post again so soon, but I thought I'd make these in case my fellow teammates wanted a Tourny badge that was a bit more individualized...

Damn that's cool!
I am actually jealous about those. :(

If I had any arty skills I'd make one for our team myself. But maybe once we've decided on a name (please sent in more suggestions guys, I'll compile them and we can vote on it next wednesday/thursday) one of us can make a
nice logo for it. :P :?

Shame..

You should have stuck with the Paro Megaphone thing you had promoting fw.net imo though

I'm happy to have less well known games chosen instead of the "usual" stuff.

Ahaha. Give me a few minutes and I'll try and whip up a giant enemy crab logo for namakoteam-UK. I just had a funny idea. ^_-

I cannot find the original source files for the Paro sig (I had all the letters and punctuation marks precut for other uses). It might be on my storage drive, but it hasn't been hooked up to my PC since my PSU died last year. -_-;;
