Shooting Game Tournament 2006
I think option B is the way to go.
I'm on the east side of the USA but if it's alright I'd like to join Team Old Schoolers.
I hesitate to suggest a bunch of old shmups (that most people probably don't want to play anyway) since it occurs to me that in some of them you can increase your score by hanging out at boss fights indefinitely. Still, I'd like to see a PC-Engine/caravan week. And a Compile week *ducks*

This sounds best to me, everybody who wants to play in a round gets to do so, if they're good enough they get counted too.Edge wrote:
B: Everyone can play, best 3 scores of a team counts
pro: It doesn't matter how many team members join a certain game (3 at least have to)
con: If you are a "weaker" player, you may feel that your efforts were useless.
As for the idea of a big player ranking, it seems to me like something that could be run on the side unofficially, its always nice to see how well you're doing individually or compared to your friends plus even if you're regularly missing out on the top 3 spots you still get to measure your progress.
It may be about time to come to some decision on the player-starved Italy, France, Netherlands teams perhaps? maybe make a Mainland Europe team?

That's not a bad idea. Some of the other teams are pretty big too, so it seems acceptable. Or will the really big teams be split?Tychom wrote:This sounds best to me, everybody who wants to play in a round gets to do so, if they're good enough they get counted too.Edge wrote:

As for a name, how about Team Semi-victorious?

i like icarus's idea with two tables, however it needs to be incorporated more with the whole team aspect i think, as it stands now its is really more like every man for himself.. im not clever enough to come up with a good solution tho
anyways team sweden has 2 more members coming in as soon as they get the hang of joining the forum

Just a suggestion, don't know if it's the best way.
I think this is a great idea!

I don't think it's particularly well suited to this competition where teams have a varying number of players, for instance a team of 3 average players is almost certain to beat out a team consisting of 3 above average players and a few novice players 'making up the numbers' when going with this system. On the other hand if you always take the top 3 scores the strengths of each team regardless of size will be shown.Shatterhand wrote:Regarding the score, maybe you should add the score of every member of a team who played the game that week, and divide by the number of people who played the game in that team - this way you have an "average" score for the team.

Rob has a point that it would take the players in the lower table a couple of games before they could get into the points. Perhaps if both tables got points distribution, but with the upper table getting double what the lower table gets - 1st in the upper table gets 60 while 1st in the lower table gets 30 - might give some incentive to players to push for the upper table and assist their team in scoring more points.sven666 wrote:i like icarus's idea with two tables, however it needs to be incorporated more with the whole team aspect i think, as it stands now its is really more like every man for himself.. im not clever enough to come up with a good solution tho
EDIT: On second thoughts, that doesn't sound too balanced. Hmm.
Some good ideas going, just need to find a good balance.
You want me to head up what now? ^_-DEL wrote:If it hasn't already been set, I'd like to propose Icarus to Head-Up UK Advanced Team Schilt.
Seriously, I'm not a team leader, I'd prefer just to play. I think you should head up the UK team. ^_-

I haven't been online all week (I just moved, so I'm busy with unpacking and setting up the new apartment and all that crap), but I'll join whatever team wants me or whichever one I default into by being in Ohio. I'm not going to lie, I'm too lazy to read through 8 pages to find out.
Disclaimer: Aside from not being the world's greatest player, I don't have too much stuff (I've been mostly playing doujin shmups these days, sometimes MAME), so if a game isn't emulated or ported to DC, I probably don't have it. I've toyed with the idea of getting a new JP PS2 since my modded one died, but that hasn't happened yet.

Considering the size and complexity of your 60 member scoring calculation proposal I'd say that you more than "prefer just to play"You want me to head up what now? ^_-

Here's an idea to split up the 2 UK teams:
We could also maybe form a London team and a seperate UK team, how many from you are from London?
Is this ok, for you?
EDIT:
Are there more members of Team Cowboy? 3 is not enough, I think.

The Dutch team has only got 3 members (myself, Dennis and Sword) atm, so we are at least 2 short...
Maybe the French members are up for an alliance for the shmeet?

UK Teams as listed by me
Edge - Thanks for taking the time to work out 2 possible UK Teams.
BUT
For real competition against other strong Countries, I would prefer this:-
UK Team 1
DEL
Icarus
Smraedis
Mulletgeezer
UK Team 2
elbarto
ill6
DC906270
Leeram
Freddiebamboo
(The only 2 members from London in this list are me and ill6, although not sure on DC's location?) A strong London Team could be made up from my Old School friend's -M-, KAC, ARC, ARM, UBN - and quite a devastating Team that would be!! BUT they are mostly not active shmupwise now except for Mills (-M-), and only ARC and ARM are registered on this board.
- So a London team is a no-go.
I'm very happy with the two Teams listed above^.

And that is a good thing for the rest of the teams. You, Mills, ARC &ARN in a team would be THE team to beat for sure (and we know that would happen).DEL wrote:So a London team is a no-go.

Maybe we could do a Netherlands/France and a Sweden/Italy team, if that's ok for both sites?
EDIT:
Let's see how we handle the UK teams. What do the other users think?
EDIT:
Ok, you suggest two UK teams based on tiers instead. Let's see what the other players think. I got your point, to have a team with the top tier UK players. But on the other hand all the other teams are put together by some regionals or other random ideas.DEL wrote: For real competition against other strong Countries, I would prefer this...

Jesus Kryste, seems someone nominated me, and since I am in the middle of moving to another place I am not sure wheter I can participate or not, I`ll just have a look in the next few days... my only achivement was a fairly nice Batrider normal score so far, so maybe I´ll might give this another try. And whoever nominated me, that`s nice!
EDIT: I see it was Edge, so I`ll see if I can join. The problem might be that I am not sure how long I`ll be able to access internet
