I'd argue that G-Darius is a bit faster paced and more given to spontaneity and seeing how far you can get on your first go, though. It certainly isn't as mired in rote memorization as R-Type...

It's certianly not in the memorization category of R-Type but still slower paced than most verticals. While I'll grant that it does fit the low-memorization bill better than some of the other choices - it still doesn't feel like a vert given the whole enemy ship capture mechanism and the super-weapon alpha/beta beam duels. It's defintely a great game, however.

Once more the light shines brightly in sector 2814.
i'm pretty surprised at how much folks dislike horizontal shooters...
they use to be my fav before the 32 bit days showed up, but I never really thought about it as one over the other before.
I'm shocked some folks dislike gradius 5 also.... that shooter screems lots of hard work and well thought out and is deffinately a step forward for that series.
I guess I'm different.. there are some shooters I play more than others but thats just some sort of personal fun factor that makes me do that with certain ones. But I totally don't dislike other shooters b/c I favor another.
Like I love radient silvergun but I have played SOUKYUGERENTAI way more than that and honestly I enjoy that game more, but i don't know if I'd say i think it's BETTER than RS. I most deffinately wouldn't rag on RS either....
